Sprint21fter Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Took the family out of Viola Saturday, and went to a deep pocket that was somewhat out of the wind and threw the jerkbait around some timber and big rocks and caught several 14 inch largemouth and came across a secodary point and caught 2 4lbers on back to back casts. Caught all fish in 8-12ft of water. My dad fished towards the mouth of the kings and white river and had an excellent day fishing a jerkbait and shad rap. He had 20 fish with 5 keepers one being a hefty 7lber. The wind had all of his fish up shallow as he fished several pockets with big rock being the key for him. He said his 7lber bit in 2ft of water. And his other fish were no deeper than 10ft. Water temp was 46-45.8.
cullinby9 Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I fished baxter area sunday and found the same type pattern 7lber was our big caught by my brother out of 5ft of water water temp 46-48
abkeenan Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Wow two 7lb'ers in the same thread caught on the same day in the same area of the lake. Wow...rub it in why don't cha! Making my skin itch here in STL. Congrats on the fish to both of you. Need to come and get a line wet down there ASAP. Nice reports.
Sprint21fter Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Dad said his big fish was caught around 11am as well. This pattern is a blast when you get around them. They will crush the jerkbait. It is a blast. Nice fish guys.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 If I wasn't such a nice person, I would have to make my "hate face" now. Oh well, someone may as well pester them until I get there in April. Nicely done by all parties.
Sprint21fter Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 We are throwing all the fish back so you will have another chance at them. LOL
Members Ultralance12 Posted January 22, 2013 Members Posted January 22, 2013 That is right next to where my boat is docked at the kings and white intersection. Was he around the island, the camp, or up mill creek. That intersection is the only place i fish but i cant get anything on jerk bait. Any advice on techniques, size or type of jerkbait etc? Ive read you have to get one that suspends well and let it sit for a long rime between action but i cant make it work. Do you cast at bank or parallel?
dwiebenga Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 IMHO...hire one of the fabulous guides and learn how to jerkbait fish. I did this 2 years ago, and I have increased my catch 10 fold and it is my favorite technique in the winter and spring. Worth every penny. Dave
Sprint21fter Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 He was just before the intersection of the white and the island and where there a some pockets located not far from the channel. Jerkbaits, throw what you have confidience in. Any of the newer models are working well and will suspend really well right out of the box. Standard size jerkbaits are what we are using with natural shad colors since the water clarity is really good. We are not letting it sit for a very long time maximum of 15 sec. but mainly jerk, jerk, pause, 2-5ct and jerk, pause varying the retrieve. We have been 3/4ing the bank or parralleling as long as the your in 5-12ft of water with the bait you should get bit until the temps drop. I would think when that happens you would have to pause the bait alot longer. I don't think the fish will be going anywhere as long as you have deep water nearby the fish will be there. If they are not in the depth that we are catching them at we would pull out and fish deeper. Hope the info helps. The fish will let you know they are there if you are in the right places.
