Quillback Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 After reading all the good jerkbait reports, I was fired up to fish the jbaits. Well I stunk it up, one 12" LM was it for me, and that was my only bite. Not a lot of wind out there today, so I'm blaming it on the flat water. Did a little deep water graphing, saw a few shad balls, dropped a spoon on them, but no takers on that either. Talked briefly to a guy coming into the ramp same time as me, said he did well, caught 40 or so, but was mum on what or where. I'm guessing he found some deep fish and spooned them up. Probably what I should have spent more time doing, graphing for shad and then breaking out the deep stuff when I find them. Maybe next time. Water temp was 41 in the morning, warmed to 45-46 by the time I left. Lots of bass fishers out there today.
Champ188 Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Happens to all of us, Quillback. Might've happened to the guy you talked to at the ramp, too, only he wasn't as honest as you about it.
edwin Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Happens to all of us, Quillback. Heck, I normally go out on the water expecting to stink it up. That way anything better than a full on stinkfest makes for a great day!!! I fish solo more times than not. One thing that really helps me is listening to music when having to fish soooo slowly with the jerk bait. I find my 20 second pauses seem more like 5 minute pauses if I don't have anything to help distract me. "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
Champ188 Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Hey Edwin, when the water gets REALLY cold, I take my putter and a sleeve of balls and practice my putting during pauses. I use the extra pedestal hole in the floor of the boat to practice those devilish 3-footers. When I've holed all 3 balls, I pick up my rod and twitch my bait, then lay it back down and go back to my putting.
Bill Babler Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Edwin, what are you going to do for a boat. Are you buying a new Kitty? http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
edwin Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Edwin, what are you going to do for a boat. Are you buying a new Kitty? The entire reason I was looking to sell it was lack of use. My kids are busy 5 days a week, 48 weeks a year with dance stuff...so fishing with them is pretty much a non-occurrence for the foreseeable future. After listening to the 'buying community' try to beat me up about price and condition, I've decided to keep the current rig and use it as time allows. She's paid for, and is in about as perfect condition as possible. I know it won't get many hours on it, but she's here to stay. In fact, my truck is gassed up, coolers are loaded, and I'm heading that way shortly for a long weekend on TRL. Hope to see some of you on the water this weekend! tight lines, edwin "Advantages are taken, not handed out"

Giving my lack of putting prowess, those would be some really, really long pauses I've got 4 putters here in the office and I'm convinced it just doesn't matter for me...I'm going to make a few, and I'm going to miss a bunch more than that.
