redbud Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Recently while on vacation in Colorado I met a man who claimed to be a past Bassmaster classic winner,Needles to say I was impressed and considered booking a trip with him to fish in Brazil. He told me that he won the 2nd Bassmaster classic on Table Rock. After doing a little research while waiting for my flight home I cant find him as a winner of any tournament ever in Bassmaster history. He even showed me a ring that he claimed he was awarded at the time of his win.According to the article I read ,Ray Scott did not have the money to give out any rings for the first 5 years of the tournament. Rings were retroactively awarded to the past winners. This man said his name was Lance Glaser. after looking at BassMaster website all I could find on him is a 35lb total over 5 tournaments during the 90's. 0 wins and zero money awarded. He also claimed to be featured in many Field and Stream articles. I did a quick search and found nothing.Am i missing something here or is this guy lying to his potential clients. If anybody has heard of this man ,and I am wrong I would like to hear from you. If he is a liar ,do you think Bassmaster would like to know that a guide is using their good name to promote his business.
kjackson Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 If it were me, I'd get with the folks at Bassmaster as they will frown upon anyone misusing their name in such a fashion, assuming that he is doing so. This reminds me of an outdoor writer I knew who represented himself as "affiliated" with In-Fisherman magazine and also as a "western representative." He wasn't, except as all humans are "affiliated" with all others. It could be this guy is just careless with his language. But then again he could be blowing smoke.
ness Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I think you know enough to pull the plug. I wouldn't think you'd want to have him guide you on Table Rock, much less Brazil. John
ColdWaterFshr Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I would not waste one more second of precious time. I would call the FBI.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 He's a fraud. The second one was in Tennessee and won by Don Butler from Tulsa. He was the developer of the Okie Bug and the SOB. He passed a few years ago. Maybe this guy got a hold of Butler's ring and is exploiting it? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Do you know how to tell if someone has ever won a respectable sized bass tournament within 5 minutes of meeting them? It's the same way you find out if they are (or ever were) a guide....
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 They did fish a BASS sponsored state tournament on TR back in the 70's, maybe he was part of that? Each state had a tournament to determine a 5 (?) man team plus an alternate. I don't remember if there were any individual awards, but there weren't any rings and I'm certain of that. Maybe he bought the ring from Butler's estate? I know the shop in Tulsa closed. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Goggle-Eyed Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 From the little bit of research I just did he seems like a legitimate fishing guide and a professional. I would be surprised if he is lying. He has fished with many professionals and his name does appear in a few publications. anyway, I hope he is not misrepresenting himself and it was just a miscommunication. Edited: I am currently in China and had some time to kill since I don't get much TV! I could not find anything about Lance Glaser and BassMasters but unless there two Lance Glasers I would say this guy is very legit. It appears that he has worked with Larry Dahlberg on "Hunt for Big Fish" and has a few articles mentioning him in Marlin Magazine and his name is mentioned in a few fishing related books that I found on "google books". Editied again: Yep I was bored!!!! I did find several IGFA mentions of Lance Glaser but I am not a paid member of the IGFA site and couldn't search it. I did find this article that mentions Lance Glaser being a Classic Winner.... http://blindfishingboat.com/fishing-bullhead-shark-in-jupiter/http://blindfishingboat.com/fishing-bullhead-shark-in-jupiter/ However his name doesn't appear here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bassmaster_Classic Not sure about the Classic Win but it appears that Lance Glaser is a very accredited fisherman.
