Bill, have you gone to Lews over the shimanos ?

Pretty much. I have 2 Shimano Core's and that is it on the casting stuff. I am now using Lew's and Diawa Steez only. On the Spinning Shimano Sustain and Stadic.

Probably will give the Core's up soon and replace them with the Steez. I really believe that upper end Lew's is maybe a littler cleaner right now than the Core. Got a feeling Shimano in the very near future will try and upgrade it. It is still a fantastic reel however, one of the best in the world. It is not however a Steez. Not Near.

Really not apples to apples as the Steez is so much more money, but it is just butter and light as a feather. They are so easy to maintain and as the guy in the Classic said on Stage. You can really throw them a long ways.

As far as the Revo. Probably more internet talk about this reel in the last 3 years than any other. Mostly bad. Don't believe they are in the same boat as the 3 we have talked about here

Back to the Reese rods, I have to have some multi purpose usuage out of my equipment. I need my flipping and heavy jig rod also to throw an A-Rig don't believe that 8' rod will work as well as the 7'6" down. Just to much rod. If you don't need multipurpose rods, thats fine. Lots of guys are not throwing the Rig, so it may not matter. That is why I so much like that McClellend flipper or the Amastead, both with do a 1/2 dozen tasks.

Good Luck

I have been thinking about the switch but I haven't worn out my curados yet. I hate the new curado and I'm looking to switch. Just when you build up $3,500 in gear it becomes time to switch.

Amen. May my old greenies see me through at least one more spring. Only reel I have ever enjoyed more is a chronarch mg 50 (old).

Bill...which Steez model are you using? That is one I have not played with because I am afraid it will follow me home. Switched to Daiwa spinning reels a few years ago and have been happy since, but have not tried their casting reels since the 90's.

Looks like they changed everything for 2013 I believe it would be the 100XS at 5.4 oz and 7.1 with 11 bearings. Mine are 2011 models and they are just Steez 100 series. Looking at tackle warehouse the price of these reels has came down. When I bought mine they were in the low 7 hundred range. "I did a little better."

Don't now what they did but the Steez line for 2013 is all priced at $599.99. That is about $150 less than they were in 2011. Had to change something to lower the price that much.

I have not had very good luck with the spinning reels by Diawa. Seem to really give me problems in cold weather. Drags not working-anti reverse not working, bale sticking. Shimano spinners work reguardless. I do like the extra heavy bale on the the diawa. I also have some very upper end Diawa spinning reels that are flawless.

The are just under the Steez and I got them in 2011 they were 6 hundred bucks and are Diawa made in Australia. Cerderi Got a great deal on them for under 200 bucks and bought 3. That was all I could get at the time and they are the best spinning reels I own. Never have had the guts to pony up for a Steez spinner or a Shimano Stella Both at 7 bills plus.

WBerkley has a handfull of Stella's, and he can tell you about those. I think they are thru the roof great.

I do love the Stella, it's a fantastic reel. Paired it with a GLX BSR852 and it's a fantastic tubin' setup.

Again, I got it a couple years back when Tackle Wareshouse had one of there 20% off deals, so I figured why not. It's a buttery smooth reel, and the drag is second to none - it never jumps just glides smoother than a babys butt off the spool.

I will be honest though - I bought a Stradic CI4 2500 and that's almost as fine a reel. I can't come up with a single complaint, especially with a price tag about $500 less.

Was wondering about that C14. Believe me guys he would know. That is quality information on equipment

Thanks much.

I like it a lot, and I'm comparing it to the best of the best. It's an ounce lighter than the stella, has Paladin Gears and Propulsion Line System - same as the Stella. I dropshot with it and haven't had a problem once.

It's hard to go wrong with a Shimano spinning reel. I've only got 1 Shimano Baitcaster - Core Mg7 - and I like it a lot. Just not enough to give up my Zillions...

Hard (mentally) for me to drop the price of a decent over/under on a set up. Getting crazy right down to the $1+ per lead head level. Going back to building my own sticks, nursing my Curados along.

Do appreciate the info on the Steez. Noticed the price drop, and started inching towards interested. Still the price of a good pistol, or a 2 man pond boat. And will probably not last as long.

Some of those Daiwa spin reels come packed with what is apparently the reel version of cosmoline that causes a lot of winter issues. Seems to thicken up in the cold. They are a little bit of a pain to take apart, clean, and re-lube, but it is a few hours well spent. I am also using them in the 3000 size, so that might be a difference compared to the smaller reels. Went that way because they have some massive spools that really do a good job with light fluorocarbon (with loads of backing). Big spool, small body.

Great point on the reels. If you remember you told me that before when I was having problems. I cleaned them up and put a very small ammount of Steez oil on the gears, I mean miniscule. The Exceller is still givin me fits.

Smallest for me is the 1500 series and you are right about the size. All my bass stuff is at least 2500, but it is all shimano.

Good Info.
