Members Texan Posted February 19, 2013 Members Posted February 19, 2013 I'm a newbie to the site, but not to the Ozarks. Crooked Creek is by far my favorite fishing destination. I've always fished it in the Early Summer and Fall but never the Spring. I'm planning a trip at the end of March. Can anyone tell me what to expect that time of year? How does the fishing compare to mid May? Thanks for all your help.
Ham Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Could be epic or could be muddy and blown out. No way at all to tell. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members Texan Posted February 19, 2013 Author Members Posted February 19, 2013 Gotcha. Everything depends on the water level.
Ham Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 AND how warm the water is. The fish could be frozen, or prespawn, or in the middle of spawn. April brings a lot more stability in temps, but not water level. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
gotmuddy Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 dont make long term plans. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Members creekin bassnerd Posted February 20, 2013 Members Posted February 20, 2013 I'd hit the caddo river, spring rains are too unpredictable. If youre from texas, its closer to home and its also a smaller drainage so if all the other rivers are swelled up, theres a good chance that the caddo is looking good, and she holds piggies.
Ham Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I love the Caddo. It was my little slice of Heaven when I lived n Minden, La Don't overlook the Hull Country Rivers like the Llano, Blanco, etc. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members Texan Posted February 22, 2013 Author Members Posted February 22, 2013 Never fished there. Might have to try it out. Thanks for the great info.
taxidermist Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Yesterday a white Road Runner, fished slow and low was pretty good. the 1/16th ounce bouncedd down the top end of the shoals into deep water.
Ranger520vx Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Also watch for rising water on Crooked Creek in the spring overnight rain can bring it up fast
