mixermarkb Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Had a decent morning yesterday, 12 bass, 7 keepers, best 5 for around 12 pounds. Wiggle Wart on windy (what bank wasn't windy??!?) channel banks about 2/3 of the way back in the creeks. Theodosia and Spring Creek areas. Water temp 47, some color. Today without the clouds, I only managed 3 in the boat, one 13" K and 2 keeper LMB. I lost a giant on a jerkbait, she looked to be an easy 6. It was still REALLY windy, and I lost her trying to get the net and keep the boat off the bank. I also lost a pre-rapala phantom green craw wart, not sure which one sucked more!! Anyway- Having the bite shut down on me when the clouds go away is nothing new on Bull. How do you guys adjust for high skies days like today to keep the bite going?
mixermarkb Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 Ok, I posted this on the Bull Shoals forum, but thought I'd give it a shot here as well, due to there being more traffic. Just curious what adjustments you guys make to keep the bite going when we have those clear days like today- Lets hear some ideas. Today I tried going to a grub, but I couldn't keep contact and keep the boat going slow enough in the wind. Changed up from the wart to a jerkbait, and got a few bites, threw the Arig some, but no love for it today. Didn't fish past noon, the wife and kiddo were waiting on me with some grilled burgers.

mixermarkb Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 I know- that bank has cost me plenty this year already- my buddy broke off a brand new megabass 110+1 on a cast a couple weeks ago during the winter bass-o-thon on the same bank. I got out and looked up on the bank where it landed for it today, hoping that if the Bull taketh, she might giveth back today. No luck.
Feathers and Fins Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 On clear days, i hope for wind and if there is I find the mudlines off points and work them! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Sprint21fter Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I will either go dirt shallow and throw a squarebill or flip a 1/2oz. jig around wood and big chunck rock in the very back of pockets depending on water temperature. If that doesn't work I will fish deeper than average depth with a big football jig that I have been fishing. If I was fishing 20-25ft I would mover out to 35-45ft. Thats what works for me if the bite shuts off when the clouds dissappear. I won't load the boat but I will get a few more bites to finish the day out with.
mixermarkb Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 The mudline thing is a real good idea for this time of year, the few fish I caught were in a mudline. I changed up from the wart to a jerkbait, trying to slow down a bit. Thought about a jig around some docks, near where I have been catching the wart fish, but didn't pick it up, quit and went to play with the 5 year old instead.

Hey mixer, can you explain a little more what is meant by "mudline"? Are you looking on the shore for rock or dirt to change to mud, or are you focused on areas of water that change from clear (relatively speaking) to muddy? Thanks, Tom "You can always justify putting off a decision... but you can't put off the results of indecision."
mixermarkb Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 I was fishing an area that wave action was making the water muddy- the place where the mud met the clear was a pretty well defined line-
drs7558 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 This Mudline thing is new to me. How deep will the mudline be? How far from the bank?
