J-Doc Posted April 25, 2013 Author Posted April 25, 2013 OMG! Y'all and your "new age fishing gadgets". I bet ya spend more time idling around wasting gas and dickin' with your toys than you do with a rod in your hands And in the end you'll not have caught one extra fish by doing so. I think you are screwing yourself by relying too much on high-dollar electronic gizmo's instead of fine tuning your natural instincts. But hey, that's just me..... I'm glad you're having fun and helping boost the economy 'over there'. LOL Somebody has a case of the Mondays! LOL!!! For the record, I've been trying to get the settings adjusted since I got the new graph. I'm good now. All I want is a more detailed contour map of Beaver Lake. I have the file, I just need a Navionics card to put the file into the graph. I wasn't "driving around the lake watching the graph. I was fishing.....well most of the time and it did help me find some fish. I just couldn't get a bite. Why the "new fangled gadget"? Because it will show me contours in my home lake thatI never new existed and help me find fish. I already have the map on my phone and it's helped explain why I found fish in a small 1ft drop that created a cup or bowl shape on a feed flat. I have that spot marked on my GPS for future use. Looks like in time, I'll be better off with my "fancy gadget". Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! Using my "new fangled gadget" I have found fish in 1ft drops or bowl shaped holes in feeding/spawing flats and marked them on my GPS map. If I had a more defined contour map, I could put patterns together faster and fish the "fish" vs. fishing open water. :-) Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. fishinwrench Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Horse-puckey ! I've installed over 2 dozen of these over-glorified image producing 'depthfinders' on customers boats over the last several years and not a one of them has increased their yearly average catch rate, or become any more capable of putting together manageable patterns consistently than they could before. If anything, it causes them to keep hammering a piece of structure for 2 hours longer than they should. Meanwhile the guys fishing the same way they have been for decades before those things hit the market are still taking the majority of checks at weigh-in. Just sayin'
Feathers and Fins Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Wrench I strongly disagree with you... When im running mine on side scan mode I can see bait balls 200ft either side of the boat and actually turn the boat to go to them. Before the technology you would NEVER have known they were there missing the chance at fish. Now you can see them and actually chart plot them for the next trolling path and maximize your odds of catching. I know without doubt it has increased my catch rate! Yes on the downscan I can see how people will hammer an area longer than they would have before because they see marks. However I have seen guys spend ungodly amounts of time on sight fishing as well, it is a matter of ( I CAN SEE IT, IT HAS TO BITE SOONER OR LATER). But the gadgets have helped and proven their worth many times over. Try telling a guy out fishing Tuna or Billfish the 360 scan furuno doesn't produce more fish. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Stump bumper Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 It really depends on where you are fishing, in lakes with pads and grass and fallen trees then I can see where people would look at $2,000 fish finders and say what the heck. But on an open clear water hole like Beaver where you will find 6lb bass at 40ft in 100 feet of water chasing shad in the open....it is just different. When your main cover to fish is shad balls and they move every minute you just can't set up that milk run and hit spots that hold fish unless you can see the shad and what is around the shad. Beating trees and shorline will work 30% of the time and will always find plenty of short fish but those big hungry fish follow the food and you can't find the food with a $100 fish finder. Myself, I don't have that kind of money so I just follow those who do.

J-Doc Posted May 5, 2013 Author Posted May 5, 2013 So does anyone have a lake map of Beaver that shows the 1-2ft intervals? The one posted here previously from Lowrance is only showing the 10ft intervals. Either there is a setting on my unit that needs to be changed or it's not working on my graph. I have historical data showing up on the lake now (cemetarys, old Prarie Creek school site, etc) which is really cool to know the old historical data as you race across above on the water. Could shows some really cool downscan photos eventually. I want the 1-2ft interval contour map because that will help explain to me why I found fish where I do and help put patterns together and help me find fish and set destinations based on what I find. I guess I'm going to have to call Lowrance and see what it's not working on my unit. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! Members Jtbrash Posted August 6, 2013 Members Posted August 6, 2013 I just bought an elite 7. Anybody know, with the free beaver lake enhanced map available, if I could load that map on any navionics SD card. Say one that has the Great Lakes or northern region? Or does it have to be a card that has beaver lake already? Just a question because there are some cheap cards available on eBay for northern lakes, and I only need beaver, so putting two and two together.
J-Doc Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 I called Lowrance direct and discovered there is no free enhanced lake Mao of Beaver. You have to buy the South Region on an SD card to get Beaver map. I bought the Avionics app for $10 and I have all of North America on my phone for only $10 vs. $100 or $150 for the same information. Its way cheaper to spend so much less for only one map. I have saved waypoints on my phone and I can transfer manually to my Elite 5 if needed. If I use them together and mark the waypoint on my Sonar.. . All the better. Look into that option. Its not ideal by the savings.....its so worth it. The only difference really is that you get 1ft intervals vs 10ft contours. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!!
