garyw Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 wanting to buy my son-in-law a crappie rig. i'd like to keep the price around $150. spinning rod and reel any suggestions? thanks
Members trytofish Posted March 2, 2013 Members Posted March 2, 2013 i would check out a pflueger president reel, on sale most places around $40 -$60, #25 or 30. they also are on sale at most big stores in a combo for $70. very good reels inspite of the price. i own several and thats pretty much all i use for anything spinning. pick a good rod and you got somthing that pretty much indistructible and maintenance free.
dwiebenga Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 If you want a "jig" rod...Ozark Rods has good ones and so does B&M. I use both for my jigging on Truman.
Members Don P Posted March 2, 2013 Members Posted March 2, 2013 St Croix Avid 7'ML spinning rod with a Shimano Stradic C4L 1000 F Spinning Reel for jig fishing. I know that is over your budget but your son in law will love you for it. The rod is the most important part IMO...although a reel that doesn't induce alot of line twist is important as well. So I would get him a good rod and let him buy the reel himself.
Flatbottom Boy Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I purchased two of the buy one get one free TFO Garry Loomis sig series rods that someone posted on the Sale forum. I picked up a 7' light action and a 6'6" ML for 50 bucks a rod...normal price is 99. I love them, great sensitivity. He is selling them on ebay now too.
Seth Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Pflueger President 6925 spinning reel - $60 Bass Pro Microlite 7' Light Action Rod - $50 Well within your budget and gets the job done nicely. This is the setup I use.
garyw Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 thanks for all the replies. he's a great son-in-law and deserves a nice rig. i've always gone cheap with my fishing gear, good enough for a coupla times a year now that i'm retired need to "gear up" thanks again.
Bill Babler Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 You might take a look at some of the Shimano Comb outfits. When it comes to spinning reels, Shimano is just about the only name out there.Cabelas has some super Shimano combs right in your price range in their Spring fishing Catalog. You could also at Bass Pro put a super combo together with a 7' St. Croix Premier Spinning and a Shimano SE 1000 Sedona. Total $159.00 Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
