laker67 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013   Didn't miss any point. I totally understand tradition and its awsome. I just thought it was kinda odd hearing people stand just feet of each other lined up and down in a river trying to catch trout or any fish. Since someone said people frawn on keeping browns and brookies it kinda went away with the whole issue since nobody should have issues with what people keep when it is legal. The rivers or streams down here are pretty and just being outside around them are great way to spend a day outside.&nbsp ;jjWe really could care less what you choose to keep or not keep. It was the way you insulted our fishing and traditions that I took offense to. Its a good thing you can fall back on them huge trout up north because mo has none to offer, in addition to all them dang hillbilly's on the creek.

I aint never seen a brown trout bigger than 38 inches long caught in these parts. Sure is a shame they come so small around here. Every now and then, a blind hog can log 1300 -1400 lunkers in this state. With them lousy numbers, they ought to just shut down the trout fishing in the state of Missouri and chalk it up as a loss. Hope your having a good day Rick. Ran over and visited with Tim. Did not do any fishing due to being out till midnight chasing them slicks on an overcrowded Taney last night. One other car in the parking lot. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
jbtiwns30 Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 I never insulted your traditions, Im sorry if you felt like I did, if it sounded like it I didn't mean to. I just thought it was strange how many people go out on opener to fish. I didn't know it was tradition. I just didn't get all the hype.

Dont even care ifn its shoulder to shoulder with 1500 other hillbillys. I can catch them dinks and be proud of it.
Gavin Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Park fishing is what it its...but its one of those things you need to know how to do. Its a great place to refine your skills over a combination of easy, and reluctant trout in a crowded atmosphere. Hard part is picking out the one you want to catch and catching it. Wild fish are usually easy in comparison to some of those spooked & jaded park fish. We dont have much trout water in Missouri and Arkansas...but what little we do have is some of the best you will ever find. Give it a go and you will be pleasantly surprised by the diversity and quality that is available to you. Parks, Tailwaters, Put & take streams & ponds, lots of put grow and take river fisheries, some jump across creeks with wild rainbows, trout in places that you would never expect...Tons of smallmouth streams, and some big lakes too.......We have it pretty darn good here, and darn right we are proud.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I never insulted your traditions, Im sorry if you felt like I did, if it sounded like it I didn't mean to. I just thought it was strange how many people go out on opener to fish. I didn't know it was tradition. I just didn't get all the hype. Lot of hype here, but yes it is just a tradition. As I said, at one time there was no winter trout fishing period and opening day was a big thing. many can count decades of being on the line at the whistle, which signals the opening of fishing in the parks. For many there is also a linking up of family and friends and the worst the weather the bigger the excitement for many. Gigging and grabbing also have an anticipation for many when they open. We don't have many "Openings" now like there once were. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
oneshot Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Oh in just couple weeks we can fight over Boat Ramps for another Opener on a fish of some size. oneshot

Members Stu675 Posted March 5, 2013 Members Posted March 5, 2013 To me parks are over packed and boring during the season. I go during winter season because no one is there and it is peaceful, but during season I am down south where the real fun is at. If you are just learning how to fly fish the parks can be nice, but just to packed for my liking. Especially for fly fishing.

I am the same way, when I was a kid my grandfather would take me to the parks, but opening day is just horrible, a bunch of people smashed into the parks, to me fly fishing is about being out in the middle of a stream, and having a peaceful time trying to catch some nice fish, I dont care about size. I have been all over, it is just about not dealing with the daily stuff, and being smashed into a park with tons of other people that is not getting away from anything to me. So I let them have their state parks. I am proud to pay for anything that helps people enjoy something, but it just is not for me.
