chub minnow Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Ah yes. Forbes Magazine- THE definitive source for climatalogical research. I debunked this article in five minutes. Yes there was more ice than last year in one place, on one day. Sea level is rising, just ask the folks in New Jersey. Where do you think that water is coming from? I don't get financial recommendations from NOAA and I don't plan on trusting Forbes when it comes to science!

Jerry Rapp Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 New Jersey got hit with a very low Cat 1 hurricane. Anywhere along the east coast is subject to being hit by a major hurricane, then you will really have some high water. When that big hurricane hits the east coast, it will make Katrina look minimal. And it is just a matter of when it will happen. And it doesn't have one single thing to do with global warming, climate change, or whatever the new slang term is at the time. And just think when the next dust bowl hits. There will be panic everywhere.
chub minnow Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Dust bowl was man made as well, further proving my point. Over cultivation and bad farming techniques exacerbated an already severe drought.
Justin Spencer Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Seems to me the arguments that are being made against global warming are further proving the point that is is happening, CO2 levels are about to reach levels seen when Antarctica had plants, that's pretty frickin spooky! chub minnow Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 The flooding in New Jersey had everything to do with climate change. Elevated sea levels and warmer than normal ocean temperatures lead directly to the severe flooding. Higher ocean temps feed more moisture into the system. These are known facts, not up for debate. You are free to "believe" whatever you want, the facts will remain the facts. At this point I will do everyone a favor and quit this senseless back and forth. I will save my energy for people who are interested in discussing scientific fact..... or ...... fishing!
chub minnow Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 are you saying nasa is wrong too? http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/antarctica20120617.html I never questioned that Antarctica was once warm. That's a long known scientific fact. It also used to be at a different lattitude so its not even relevant to the discussion.
Outside Bend Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Please re-read my post. The point is that science doesn't know it's wrong until it knows it's wrong. Science is not about consensus, it's about proving and disproving thing But Jeb- we know CO2 is a greenhouse, we know greenhouse gases increase atmosphere temperature, we know atmospheric CO2 played a role in many past climate shifts, we know the concentration of atmospheric CO2 is increasing today, and we know mean global temperature is increasing today. I read your initial post, I understand your position that "science doesn't know it's wrong until it's wrong." All I'm saying is it doesn't take into account what we do know. <{{{><
Outside Bend Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 are you saying nasa is wrong too? http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/antarctica20120617.html From the article: "Warm conditions during the middle Miocene are thought to be associated with carbon dioxide levels of around 400 to 600 parts per million (ppm). In 2012, carbon dioxide levels have climbed to 393 ppm, the highest they've been in the past several million years. At the current rate of increase, atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are on track to reach middle Miocene levels by the end of this century." The article isn't dismissing current climate change, it's corroborating current climate change- Greenland warmed then, as it is warming now, due to higher atmospheric CO2. <{{{><
