Members Sodakrep Posted March 21, 2013 Members Posted March 21, 2013 Hello all, I am new to the site but wanted to introduce myself. I live around Lincoln, NE but am down on Indian Point quite often. I have fished the rock the past 3 years and it has kicked my butt all the way back to Nebraska majority of the time but yet there is still this awesome draw to go back. I will be visiting this board frequently trying to figure out what the pattern is. Thanks and Nice to meet you all!
dtrs5kprs Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Welcome. Feel free to ask Q's on anything. For starters, work on learning to love clear water (including downsizing tackle when needed), learn to slow down, and look through the old and upcoming posts for seasonal tendencies. That might be a better description than "pattern". That and learning the different types of rock and what they mean to the fish.
Biglerma Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Welcome. Hands down this forum has taught me how to fish the Rock. Great group of guys who never hold back. Just having a basic idea on what to do and where to start, you can figure it out on your own after that pretty easy. Also spending a day on the water with Bill Babler doesn't hurt. You'll learn enough to be dangerous for sure.
magicwormman Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Welcome! Feel free to ask any question, as you will get an answer from some great fisherman on this site. I've fished the Rock for forty years and it still kicks my butt on occasion. My advice would be to hire a guide for a day and you'll learn more than you can by yourself in a year. I use to spend a lot of time in the clear waters of the Dam area and found that most days it was just to tough for my skills. I now spend more time in the James and White river and I just seem to catch more fish. If you have to fish the clear water, my advice would be to go light line, get good electronics, and master dropshot and spoon fishing. Good Luck and God Bless
Champ188 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Welcome to the gang, Soda. I'm with magicwormman on hiring a guide ... it would be money very well spent. And your search for the right one should probably start with the moderator of this forum. He and his buddy Bill Beck are as good as guides come on The Rock.
Quillback Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Yep Soda, welcome! I agree with Champ and Wormman, if you're coming down here on vacation, you could not do worse than to go with Bill Balber and find out what they're biting on.
jmes Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Welcome, also use the search button or look at the old message's That will help you alot
