Making my 1st trip ever to Table Rock this week. We get in Wed evening and leave Sunday morning. My bride got us a package (with the kids) to spend their Spring Break at Big Cedar. It will just be me and my 18yr old son fishing as my wife and daughter are fair-weather anglers at best... I am bringing my boat and may have a slip at the lodge. I REALLY want junior to get hooked on some serious bass this week so any recommendations and locations would be great! I am set with wacky rigs, A-rigs and jerks but and tips, pointers or otherwise for these Indiana boys would be appreciated!

I am headed down next week and hope to have some luck too. I was there last year at this time and all I used was wiggle warts, green phantom and brown phantom and I did really well, at least really well for me anyways. Granted last year it was 80 degrees while I was there and really dirty (1' vis or less in spots). I still think i will have a wart hooked up at all times. I would also say a suspending jerkbait in the clear water would be good. I don't have any a-rigs and dont plan on buying one, but I think they should do good as well. Godd luck.

The temps have had me a bit concerned, and i may be pulling the boat out into snow Wed morning but I think the temps will favor us from what I see... Don't want to freeze but also don't want to go all that way without the boat in tow. Thanks for the advice!

I may be a bit off species, but you might consider leaving the boat on the trailer and running over to cape fair/galena area. People have been catching a lot of white bass in that area. Might be a good way to get some young-uns hooked!

Not sure if I will leave the boat trailered after an 8 hour ride, but will check out the area as the is the 2nd or 3rd time I have heard that now. Thanks!

I think he meant for the tow. :have-a-nice-day:It's a long run by water, with kids.

Think it will be early for the wacky stuff. PBJ jigs, warts, sticks on transition rock, A-rig (3 hooks max in MO, can run dummies on other arms) over deeper wood/swings/points/bluff ends. Maybe a stick or smoke grub on the gravel places for brown fish, especially if the wind is up. Maybe a wart or jig shallower farther up Long Creek, or in the last half of the bigger creeks around the dam.

It is just cold and off schedule.

Weather like this, it is just a plain long run period.

OK, now you have me questioning towing the boat at all... My wife thinks I am nuts to take it with us in such marginal temps and my 18yr old is a bit skeptical too. Should I survey the area and come back again in warm weather? I don't wanna freeze my giblets off and wish I had left the boat clean and high and dry. I appreciate the insight and advice from all of you as I want to make a good decision.

Ozark lakes are awesome in cold weather. Bring warm layers to wear, listen to the advice here, fish slow as far as retrieve goes, but move around quite a bit until you find some fish. You have a good chance at some big fish. Don't expect the numbers of a little later in the spring, but by all means get a line in the water!
