Bill Babler Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 That Spro Blue is nice. Packed two brand new ones Wed. after finding them at Cabelas. Have a Chrome Shad that looks like it is in pain from being chewed on. I'm emailing your wife. If you don't get away from this computer, when it comes her turn she is going to get a new BMW. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I'm emailing your wife. If you don't get away from this computer, when it comes her turn she is going to get a new BMW. Well...she already told me I'm not getting a new Ranger anytime soon. Which is fine since the old one is paid for. The boat, not the wife. And she was with me at Cabelas.
huntest Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Bill and Champ do you guys have a list like that of the Megabass 110 colors you prefer?
Bill Babler Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 Not speaking for Champ, but I don't think Champ is a huge megabass user. He is a bit wiser with his money than I am. Reguardless of the brand of suspending sticker you use, there are a few basic colors that work really well here. Most often with fishing the river systems and this includes Long Creek, I like some either orange or chartruse on my baits. I also tend to use abit darker colors in low light situations and tend to use brighter baits in light and wind. I also really like some purple or blue in Table Rock baits for the clearer lake sections. Megabass that work well here are ito skeleton and GP elegy bone. In brighter clearer water I just love French Pearl and GP Pro Blue. GP Table Rock is also very good. I also have quite a few megabass that Tim Hughes Custom Baits has sparked up for me. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
huntest Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Thank you. I want to add a couple or three and that helps me make my decisions.
Champ188 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Huntest, I do throw a few Megabass ... faves are Pro Blue, Secret Grape and French Pearl, in that order. I don't own one but that Kohoku Reaction looks like it would be a TR killer. Here is my new thing, though. The RC Stix by Luck-E-Strike is an identical copy of the MB Vision 110. Is the same quality there? Probably not. I've had a few start leaking on me, but only after catching a bunch of fish or banging them off a dock or rock. But I've also had MB's start leaking. And at $7.99 each, I can replace a leaking RC Stix twice and be at the same out-of-pocket figure for three lures (about $25) that I am for one MB. All of the colors I mentioned above except the Kohoku Reaction are available in the RC Stix, and should you decide to buy some, I'd also pick up one or two of the Herringbone Chartreuse color — it's similar to the Pro Blue but with a chartreuse belly. That's my 2 cents' worth — or so.
Bill Babler Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 James, I'm with you on that. The RCStk is very similar. It is a bit lighter and I am not a big fan of the hooks in the bait.I am betting they are mustad. They will straighten and they will for sure break. Once they straighten you cannot bend them back or they will break. Broke one yesterday, on a white bass. It is for sure a great price alternative. I think the action is very much like the MB, except for what I have stated. I was wondering about that grape. Now I know. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Champ188 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 They'll hammer that grape some days. Seems to work best under overcast but what jerk bait doesn't? I throw it pretty much anywhere I would throw the pro blue.
Bill Babler Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 With nothing better to do today, I have just watched 3 videos and read about a 1/2 million reviews of the RC STX jerkbaits. Con sences is that the bait is designed to be similar to a megabass vision 110 but it is not identical or for that matter the same bait. Colors similar and some very nice color but the action as most will agree is not as pronounced as the vision 110. Head turns and snaps for the 110 are clear and sharp, flashes of belly color and top rotate extremely quickly. the STX are more of a glide or a softer slower reaction. I believe this is due to the weight of the bait. It is without a doubt lighter, and as 90 percent of the reviews said will not throw nearly as well. It does throw very nice, but both the vision 110 and the pointer 100 throw better. The hooks and rings on the megabass are much better. Now megabass is putting the barbarian barbs on the outside. I thought for years the inside was wrong. I think they have had enough complaints they have changed them, making the hooks on these baits more than good enough. Both the hooks and Rings on the RTX have broken and are very brittle. While the megabass if fished on mono suspends in a slightly tail down attitude, the RTX can and will suspend in either a head or completely tail down attitude. Some folks didn't like this. They didn't mind the tail down, but most don't like their jerkbaits head down. Price being the main factor here. $8.99 vs $22 to $24 dollars. With the proper modifications, the RC is a very close, but not a vision 110, no matter how we chose to cut it. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
huntest Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Thank you...super information! I think I will buy some of all 3 brands discussed here. I found this winter that I really enjoy jerkbait fishing. To me, the slow nature of the presentation is more than offset by the anticipation of a strike. At what water temp with this bite really fall off? Thanks again
