Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 29, 2013 Root Admin Posted March 29, 2013 Residents around Table Rock Lake on April 6 and 7 may be hearing strange sounds and seeing bright lights on the lake at night — sounds rarely heard or seen on this lake renowned for family boating, skiing and bass fishing. The sights and sounds will be those of the Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats 2013 U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship. More than 90 boats with 300 to 400 anglers from about 25 states are expected to participate. http://www.news-leader.com/article/20130328/LIFE06/303280032/Bass-Pro-debuts-major-bowfishing-event-at-Table-Rock?nclick_check=1
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 My only concern is that given the fact that BPS is sponsoring it, I would hope they have found a practical use for the quarry. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
abkeenan Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Boy I really don't get the animosity towards BPS. I do not work for BPS, nor do I have any affiliation with them once so ever. I have said this before and we have had some posts on the topic before but I will say it again. You can gripe all you want that their prices are too high, their selection stinks, etc. What you can not argue is that they run a clean store, are customer friendly (you can return just about anything if you have a problem and employees are always nice) and Bass Pro probably donates more money to more charities and outdoor organizations than any other outdoor gear retailer in maybe the entire United States. They sponsor so many things that allow kids, anglers, hunters and outdoor recreation people alike to enjoy tournaments and other outdoor activities. I don't intend to be rude but boy I just don't get the bashing on Bass Pro and Johnny Morris. If they don't sponsor this bowfishing event it doesn't happen, the funds aren't there. The bowfisherman don't get to participate in what I am sure is to be a great event for them and the local motels, hotels, restaurants, tackle shops, hunting stores, retail stores, etc don't get a piece of that income that would otherwise never happen. I buy my overwhelming majority of gear from Tackle Warehouse but I do go to BPS a few times yearly to pick stuff up and I will continue to support them. My 2 cents.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 If that is directed at me, you lost me. If it concerns my comment about using the resource then, as I said, given the fact BPS has a lot of resources I hope they have some useful plans for the quarry. As opposed to dumping them in a landfill as some minor club functions are apparently prone to do. My only gripe about Bass Pro is that they are like a liquor store to an alcoholic, can't stay away. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Wayne, Sorry I guess I misinterpreted your post. I apologize. Yes, I agree with you that they should do something with the carp, not just dump them in the trash.
Quillback Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Looks like they are going to a turtle farm. Gonna be some happy turtles.. That is if they get any, I haven't seen a carp in the shallows so far this spring, maybe at night they move up where they can be seen and shot at night?
abkeenan Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I've always seen the most carp when the sun has been out all day and warmed the shallows up and when the sun starts to go down in the afternoon they patrol the 0-5 depth. Strictly my observations and like I said in another post about carp I am no authority on them. All I know how to do is throw corn out for a couple days to get them to come in to an area and then bait up a treble hook with 3 pieces of corn and throw it out and wait. Fun for kids who can play around the dock until one picks it up and the little ones love to see the size of a 15-30# carp.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Abkeenan do a search for the Hair Rig, it's easy to tie, and a real high hook-up rate for kids or adults. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
