I caught the crap out of them on the fly rod yesterday between walker's bluff and twin. All the fish I landed were males, but I hooked something massive in an eddy that I had on for two minutes or so before it came unbuttoned. It had me way into my backing. I have no idea what it was...big walleye, foul hooked carp, big female, hybrid - no idea. I'd have loved to have gone again today but couldn't make it. I saw hundreds swimming up the shoals. Lots of boats running up and down, including a bass boat with a 200 that made it all the way up to where I was, but he turned around at the shoal I was working and decided he had pushed it far enough. I know we talked about bass boats not being able to go that high earlier, and that was when the 45 gauge was a good three feet higher than it is now. Folks who know the river can make it to within sight of Twin, even in big boats. If that guy would have committed and stayed on plane, he'd have been through it easily. Hopefully this rain won't be as heavy as anticipated because it was on track to get good in a hurry. I'm afraid it's going to be blown out though. I like it when the big boats can't get up there and the water's running a little clearer.

hoglaw, glad to hear you were catching them, I haven't busted out the flyrod yet but have really been wanting to. I was planning on waiting till they ran up past the bridges so they weren't so deep, my skills are less than average but I sure do enjoy it. We may have to get together this weekend if the weather cooperates. I fished just upstream of walkers last night and caught an easy 20 within an hour. Nothing huge but some quality keepers. Speaking of that monster you hooked and couldn't tell what it was I have a similar story.

After fishing monday and getting into some quality walleye I figured I'd bump my test up to 12lb just in case I got into them again. Right before dark I got a strike that about ripped my pole from my hands and immediately started taking drag. ran about 150-200 ft and turned back at me, I couldn't reel fast enough to keep up with this thing. at this point I was about waist deep in the river and was planning on belly flopping on this thing if I saw it, and then the submarine surfaced and saw the biggest hybrid of my life. had to push 30 inches and was as round as a basketball. Took one last dive and run and pop! out comes my little jig with a straightened hook. I'm bringing the big rigs this weekend and I'm going to boat one of those behemoths. Saw a few chase my little whites up to the surface as I reeled them in doing their little shimmy moves.

I was able to get out yesterday afternoon for a little while. I put in at Hickory creek and went up War Eagle. About the 3rd or so bend past the Point 12 sign, I saw fish busting shad on top of a large flat. I caught around 30 white bass in the next hour. When I would cast closer to the bank I would catch 12-14" Kentuckies. Was a lot of fun. Most of the whites were football shaped or smaller males. I had one I wasn't sure what it was and it was the only one I took a pic of. I brought 10 of them home and will enjoy them tonight.

Jdelow, yep they are still around, been catching quite a few shorts. Wormer that's a heck of a day! Looks like a stripe to me but the best way for me to tell is to check their tooth patch/es I don't catch many stripes so I'm no expert on their stripes or shape.

We out Friday and caught a few tiny LM , no whites at $2 dollar hole , I don't know if they are that far up war eagle yet , so I jetted over to twin bridges and it was packed ! walked the trail only to find that there was about 20 + people where I wanted to fish so it was a tough day , warmer weather should put these fish in full swing !
