Members Ozark Brad Posted April 11, 2013 Members Posted April 11, 2013 I certainly do my fair share of shopping at Bass Pro/Cabelas etc. but I also like to give my business to the small tackle companies when they provide a quality product that I normally would purchase from the big stores. I purchase all my jigs from Siebert Outdoors. He is a Missouri guy from Festus that hand ties all his jigs. These are great jigs! As far as hand poured plastics go, I am a huge fan of Alluring Baits. His senko knock-off is one of the best I have used and at a good price among many other great plastics he offers. He pours them from his home in Texas. Do you guys have any small time tackle manufacturers you like to buy from?
Dutch Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I haven't bought any of Mike Siebert's stuff but have swaped him a few hundred heads when he didn't have a football mold and I didn't have the poison tails. He does good work and is a nice guy. I haven't looked at his site lately but I think he maybe making some plastics now as he was wanting to borrow my tube molds a while back and see how he liked them. I used to by my Shak It worms from Joe Seitz in New Jersey but he has quit making stuff for sale. The think people should realize is that small companies are usually one or two people who do quality work and can't compete with stuff made overseas in sweat shops then sold in the big box places but typically make a better produce.

Members Paul Posted April 11, 2013 Members Posted April 11, 2013 I buy all my jigs from Flatheadjig.com. Excellent quality and great service. Made in the Ozarks. http://www.flatheadjig.com
UnCivE Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I buy my jigs for tubes and grubs and such from http://www.gophertackle.com/mushroomjig.html I like the "Big John" jig heads, personally.
Brian Jones Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Don't know if they're considered a major distributor but I buy a lot of stuff from tackle warehouse.
WakenLake Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 tackle warehouse is definitely major. www.jordanvalleyautorepair.com
moguy1973 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Http://www.redhawklures.com is a small St. Louis plastic bait company. They make some good looking plastics. If you sign up for their club mailin list they will send a free pack of worms your way too. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Tim Smith Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Strongly agree with the decision to buy locally. This week a ship full of 20K pounds of pangolin meat headed for China ran aground in the Philipenes. Almost half the elephants in Africa were killed THIS YEAR by poachers filling illegal Chinese demand for ivory. Rhino horn, tiger penis, bear gall bladder, shark fins... ...I've gotten sick of watching that country treat the natural resources of other countries like their own personal and illegal menu. I'm especially sick about it because they're doing it with the dollars we spend on their crappy plastic products. I've always tried to buy locally, but I think this year it goes into overdrive for me. Until China starts obeying conservation laws around the world, I'm going to do my best to avoid buying anything from there...especially fishing tackle.
Mitch f Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I would agree Tim, they are the classic "kill and eat the goose that lays the golden egg" mentality country. Believe me, I could tell you many stories! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
