Quillback Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Reading in the paper that the AGFC bios are collecting big largemouth bass (some from the FLW catches) for brood stock. Their goal is to collect 500 bass and put them in the Beaver lake nursery pond and they anticipate being able to stock 500,000 fingerlings this year into Beaver. This is to offset the anticipated low spawning success due to low water this year.
J-Doc Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 That is great news. Way to go AGFC! Thanks for sharing the info. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Feathers and Fins Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Lake is only 2.91 ft low currently... more rain in the 10 day forecast...Lake is not ( that low )... I have been on the lake every weekend and many weekdays since 9-1-12 and have yet to pull one bass off a bed ( I have been looking somewhat ). My guess is they are 3 to 4 weeks from spawning. Not sure this is needed but that's just my 2 pennies. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

I still think its good news to try and supplement the spawn with big females and a few hundred thousand fingerlings. It would be cool if they could do the same for smallmouth next spring.
hoglaw Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 They should be close. All of the water hazards at Pinnacle had bass on beds today. My girlfriend and I went to a private spot over off Highway 59 yesterday and we caught some nice fish up very shallow. We weren't "bed fishing," but their tails were blistered.
Sore Thumbs Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Suggs was catching some early spawning smallies in the FLW. I think they started moving up sat or sunday. It is almost here if not already.
Stump bumper Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I think the effort here is to produce some quality bass rather just more quantity. The bass in Beaver are so crossed up between spots, LM and smallmouth it is really getting hard to tell the difference and the lake could use some quality northern strain LM pure breads.

jolicious Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Reckon it'll go back like a few years ago when the "Dinner Bell" would go off in Blackburn and the topwater bite would be nuts for an hour at a time?

Full moon is on the 25th. Likely to be a huge wave of spawners then. On another note, proud to see the supplemental stocking of LM but is there forage enough to support more fish? Doesn't matter how many fish you have — if there's not enough to eat, they won't survive. Stripers have taken a big bite out of the lake's shad population.
