Members dudley02 Posted April 18, 2013 Members Posted April 18, 2013 I don't mean to highjack a post but I'm new in Ozarks angler, and will be fishing first time on the rock with my 8 year old son who is crazy about fishing. Will be putting in at cape fair have a any advice, baits , colors would be greatly appreciated.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Everything is doing well. hard to beat some minnows and bobbers around timber 8-12 ft deep set the bobber about in the middle of how deep you are ( 4-6 ft) easy way to get the little guy on some crappie. Also if you can find some brush off the bank a little and cast right in the middle and hope you get a bite before you get hung. We caught a few limits last weekend doing that
Members dudley02 Posted April 18, 2013 Members Posted April 18, 2013 Thank you I do appreciate the help he is obsessed with catching his first Lm we do a lot of crappie at Stockton. For an 8 year old he well set up for bass with two baitcasters that he is quite good with but pomme has shut us down twice . from the posts on here the bass bite is much better at tablerock than either Stockton or Pomme im sure ill pick up some crappie but his first bass would be a highlight.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Army Corps, needs to start yanking docs off the lakes of people who Harass fishermen in pursuit of their quarry! If the Doc owner wants to break the law then remove the thing causing the problem Amen. But that would require the COE to do something besides tree trimming oversight.

Gravel or mixed rock in the coves, about 10-20'. Front may make them touchy.
Billfo Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I dont mind people fishing "UNDER" my private dock & slip, its when people smack my boat with a jig that pissed me off. But the water ? Who cares, not much chance of snagging a boat lifts air hose. Ok, ok, I know that I should know the rule about fishing around docks, namely resort docks? I figure I will find out whats what before I go running my mouth off too much. However, I did smack 'em at Table Rock today. Best day I've had all year, at least 50 fish with 18+ keepers, couldn't get one to break 4 1/2 pounds, but had a blast till the lady came down taking pictures and calling the sheriff on me for fishing "her water". Email me Red-Right-Returning is for quitters !
abkeenan Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Amen. But that would require the COE to do something besides tree trimming oversight. Boy if that ain't the truth. Had a neighbor get hit with a fine (I believe 5 or 6 grand) for trimming some trees/brush back in his yard and I guess unknowingly some on COE property. Not only do I find this HIGHLY excessive and down right almost criminal but the COE employee had him make a CHECK OUT IN THIS EMPLOYEES name for the total amount and not to the COE or State of Missouri. I find that very suspect and this neighbor is one of the nicest guys I have EVER met. Would never harm a fly or knowingly break the law. A small fine of a hundred (or a few benjamins) would have been sufficient. One other problem with the COE is that you talk to 3 different people and get 3 different answers as to what is the law/code/regulation. They really have nobody that keeps them in check and therefore have free reign to do whatever they see fit. They need some sort of check and balance if you ask me. Step all over people and you can't fight back. Rant over.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 abkeenan he should have smelled a rat there, they don't collect fines. As far as tree trimming, I think they should fine some. People who go on public property and cut down trees to enhance their view are no better than thieves. As far as private dock owners go they and their signs should be ignored. Those docks are there under a permit and it doesn't allow them any private space. The commercial marinas are off limits for one reason, safety, to avoid collision or accidents in an area that be very busy. It's not just the docks that are off limits, but the whole basin where marked. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

All the trees and brush cut was on his property and maybe a touch of COE property near the shore line....not a public site or area to enhance his view. He was making a trail from his yard to his dock and didn't think he was doing anything wrong. A very honest mistake which should have warranted a fine but geesh not multiple thousands of dolalrs. I do not have a high opinion of the COE just from the stories I hear from people and I also think they are quite arrogant.
