It looks ridiculous, small and unappealing and everything about it screams no action at all but those little boogers will put fish in the boat. Don't know why but it does.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 24, 2013 Author Posted April 24, 2013 I hope they're a better option than using a finger! Stupid kindle. Should have been dinger. Hate the auto word fill thing.

Crossed fingers. They will work. Just don't get in a hurry. Can't fish it too slowly. Dead stop was about right today. When I get home I will send you some more info. Don't have it available here. It should tear up those grand traverse brownies. Ned and Drew use it in MN and at lake of the woods.
Goggle-Eyed Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Ned rig continues to produce fish. Also dragging the fish doc and scrubbing the smoke grub. This post Reminded me of watching the X-Games and hearing the description of the tricks the skaters do!!! LOL Made me laugh a little since I didn't know what a Ned Rig was, then I found out it was just a jig with part of a worm... Still don't know what a fish doc is or what scrubbing a grub is!!! Now I am off to google "fish doc". I already googled how to "scrub my grub" and that produced some very disturbing images!!! LOL Seriously though, thanks for the report. It's guys like you and many other's on here that share there knowledge and keep many of us coming back to the site!
Guest Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Scrubbing rocks is considered dragging or pulling a bait along the bottom? is that right? Also, what jighead do I need for the NedRig? Where can I buy them online?
Guest Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I figured it out, its the mushroom head. So what size hook on the mushroom head, and which style hook & brand do you prefer? Also, do they make a thin wire weedguard?
bluebasser86 Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I figured it out, its the mushroom head. So what size hook on the mushroom head, and which style hook & brand do you prefer? Also, do they make a thin wire weedguard? I pour my own with the Do it Worm Nose jig, the 3/32oz uses a #2 the 1/8 uses a #1, I use the black nickel Mustad hooks. Lots of companies make them but the original Gopher mushroom head is probably the most popular and is also made with a Mustad hook. http://do-itmolds.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=1_7_233 Best solution I've found for a weedguard http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Hook-Guard-for-Weedless-Lures/product/1997/?cmCat= My theory for why the ned rig is so effective is it looks like so many things that are easy to catch. If a small craw is making a break for it, it tucks all it's legs and claws in and when it tail flips and tucks up under it's body it looks very similar to half a Zinker on a jighead. It also resembles a small baitfish wandering aimlessly around the bottom just waiting to be eaten. There is no doubt it catches fish when nothing else will.
abkeenan Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I know Dave will kill me for this but I just use the 1/8th and 1/16th oz stand-up jig heads made by Arkie from Walmart for my Ned Rigs. They are like $2.50 for a 5 pack. Have a small single cable weed guard and they are cheap so when I lose a while bunch I don't care....what can I say I'm cheap!
dtrs5kprs Posted April 25, 2013 Author Posted April 25, 2013 Gopher does not make it with a guard. Neither does outkast. Mine are from the do it screw lock worm nose jig. No collar, modified for the cable guard. Size #2 gamakatsu 604 hook. One keeper on it today plus shorts. Fished a stick most of the day looking for size.
