mic Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I went out to my honey hole yesterday for a couple of hours. I was doing OK on crankbaits for bass so I tied a black and yellow crappie tube jig on lite wieght rod under a bobber. Kept catching bass, but started brining in these hogs. I caught a ton so these were just some of the biggest. Overall a great trip. Still no top water yet here on the east side. PS. The guy that owns this pond uses water dye to keep the moss under control. I don't know how much that stuff costs, but darn does it work good. This pond should be covered in moss, but you only find it in the first couple of feet from the bank.

mic Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 Where's your flyrod? I brought it, but the only thing that stops the wind at this place is St. Louis. It was just to windy. I was casting 10 yards or 40 yards depending on where I was standing.
mic Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 Nice, spin rod or fly rod, bluegill like that are fun. Yea, a couple of those pulled out some line from the drag. Great day minus the wind. I also got permission from the land owner to use my new float tube here so also looking forward to that.
stlfisher Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Great looking Gils. Those big guys are a blast to catch. Congrats. You ever fish Baldwin lake near Red Bud? Holy cow is that place windy..4-5 foot waves...seriously unfishable even in moderate winds. However, you can catch little channel catfish on chamois flies all day long. Hundreds of them if you wanted. it is power plant lake so It is a catfish factory, and a nice place to fish in winter when everything is frozen over. Make sure there is no wind in the forecast.

I went once on a windy day and holy crap are you right. Do you catch them on the rip rap from the bank or are you out in a boat?
Greasy B Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Good gills. It won't be long and the males will be so aggressive they'll make up the majority of your catch, that's when it gets good. Wayne SW/MO Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Where's your flyrod? That was my first thought, great minds do think alike. A flyrod and a yeller popper, heaven. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
