I'm looking to buy a new rod to pair up with my Lew's spinning reel in the next few days. Needs to be in the $70 to $100 range, which isn't much I know, but it's what I can afford. My baitcasters are on Abu Garcia Veritas rods and I like them, but am open to suggestions. I'm considering the Abu Garcia Veritas and Vendetta, Bass Pro Johnny Morris Carbon Lite (even though I like the idea of buying from a local shop and supporting them), Falcon Bucoo, or any other suggestions you might have. Looking for a 7' or slightly longer rod with foam handles instead of cork. Thanks in advance.

Can't go wrong with a Falcon IMO.

I think you can still find the Bucuoos on sale at Walmart for $99, but that might be for the bait casting only. Diddos on the Falcon

What are you looking to do with said spinning rod? There is a local manufacturer that has a 7 foot rod I love to fish trout and open hook lures for panfish. Great rod for SR 5 and road runners or CD 7 etc. Ozark Mountain Traditions. I think it is rated for 4-8 lb line and 1/16 to 1/4 oz. I fish 4-6 lb on it without any issue.

Get a Shimano Compre and you'll never look back... I have several of the older models (cork grips) and love the weight, feel, and action. They now have the black foam split grips. $99.99 with a lifetime warranty. I once bought one, walked out of BPS, put it in my buddy's car and he closed the door on it snapping it in two... I walked back in, the guy just laughed and handed me another one no questions asked. And they have a 7'2" M which seems like the exact rod your looking for...

Falcon's are great rods too, I've just never tried the Bucoo model. I have a Falcon Cara T7 baitcasting rod that is by far my favorite rod, but that's a little higher than your price range.

I've always found Abu Garcia rods to be tip heavy... and most Bass Pro brand equipment is junk.

Go to to Walmart.com and order a generation 1 Vendetta, 6'9" for $29.95 At that price you have nothing to lose. They're just dumping the Gen 1's to make room for the cosmetically improve II.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I know you are looking for a 7'+ rod but I second the Vendetta 6'9" rod on sale at Wal-Mart depending on what you wish to use the rod for of course. I have a 7'0 M Veritas spinning rod and it is a stout rod. I really like it for 5 inch senkos, but I favor it more for lakes where I target bigger fish. The 6'9 ML vendetta has been amazing for river/creek fishing. This rod is made for river smallies! I've been throwing 4 inch senkos or light t-rigs (1/8oz weight + 2/0 or 3/0 EWG hook) With a good reel this thing casts a mile and has enough backbone to work a fish from cover but also give you a rush working in a smallie through current. If this is what you are looking for, you CANNOT beat the price of this rod at Wal-Mart. I have mine paired with a Abu Garcia Orra S spinning reel (matches the vendetta rod), and even though it doesn't help me catch more fish, this combo is sharp looking. Good luck in whatever rod you choose.

Any rod you buy "off the floor" at Wally World or BPS is likely to have been used as a sword or baseball bat by some kid - always get one from the back of the store and skip the "floor model".

Funny you should mention that scenario because I'm sure that's what happened.

I just picked one up and bought it. They replaced it though so Ill see about it this time.
