I was taking with my Son,I've decided and all around Rod and Line for Niangua River would be Light Action,Open Face Spinning with 6 pound Test Line.

Biggest fight would possibly be a Catfish but just play it and if you wanted Trout just use 2 pound Leader.

Thoughts?

I would get 6 pound P-Line Premium Plus. Has the diameter around what most 4lb lines have.

...sounds right, but the 2lb leader, I don't think necessary. I just use 4lb test, even as my leader on flyrod and do great...that 2lb stuff is just too light for most applications...good luck...

A strike indicator is just a bobber...

Yes. I would go with a medium light 6' rod and a reel with a real spare spool, no graphite spool.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

My all arounder is a 6' Medium Light with a Pflueger Supreme..The Pflueger President is a good reel too...Just wrapped a Batson ISB722 blank and I really like it.

Pflueger Presidents are all I use anymore. I prefer 6'6" medium light action rods.

I'm pretty stuck on plain old green maxima 4 lb test for line. Rods I like 6' Light Fast action. Reels I'm running two Shimano Sahara 1000 size with good success, a 1000 size symetre that's probably ten + years old now and also one Daiwa Exceller that's a 1500 size. The Daiwa has 6 lb line on it. All of the above are on Berkeley Lightnin' Rods except the Symetre. It's on a 7' LF Wally Marshall rod I bought when he was still with Bass Pro. The exceller is on a ML Lightnin' Rod. I know, I'm an outdated old throwback. But I don't feel handicapped by my gear, which I guess is the bottom line.

This is a bit like the "if you only had one lure, what would it be" question. I certainly wouldn't want to have to use only one rod and reel, but if I did, it would actually be one that I don't even own at this point, because, like the best "one lure", it has to be so versatile that it's okay for everything but not perfect for much of anything. So mine would probably be a 6 1/2 foot, light power, fast action spinning rod, a good reel, and the best 4 pound test line I could find. Why 4 pound test? Not because you need line that light to fool any fish in the Ozarks, you don't. But because the 4 pound line would match the lightest lures you'd be using, while still able to handle heavier lures after a fashion. That's the same reason for the light power rod, to be able to cast the lightest lures you'd be using while still being able to cast heavier lures. Indeed, it's the reason for using spinning tackle, which will cast 1/16th or 1/32nd ounce lures that I might want to use for the trout.

And I don't own an outfit like that, nor do I ever use 4 pound line on spinning tackle...if I'm going to use something that requires line that light, I'm going to be fly fishing.
