Guest Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I just get irritated when people think I'm bull shitting. Anybody that knows me, doesn't question my report. They know I tell it like it is. 143 isn't a number that you just make up to sound cool. I hate it when people exaggerate the size of fish or number of fish. But that's human nature, some people are wired to "one up" everybody. That's not my style, but it fits people like IKE.
Members TrophyWife Posted July 3, 2013 Members Posted July 3, 2013 Trophy and I count all of our fish. We have a bet on who catches first, most, and largest fish. Also, I am an accountant so that should explain why I count the number of fish I catch. Not that I have to explain my logic, but felt the need to post this. I don't care if you think we are calling bs on our numbers..my question is why must you post negative stuff on someone else's blog? The most important part of this trip was that I got to spend quality time with my husband. We have a one year old, so it's not very often we get to do this. We did have a blast catching so many fish and having our bet as we've always done!
Bill Anderson Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 My youngest son took three of my grandchildren on a float down the Elk River last Saturday, and they had a ball. One thing of concern to him was what looks like a carpet of beer cans on the riverbottom in many places. Top me, this is the biggest problem with canoe liveries--hordes of drunks throwing cans and trash in the river. My son got there at a 7 a.m., so they got to be first on the river. When they got back to the put in point, he said there must have been 300 people waiting to get on the river, and many of them were already showing signs of drunkenness. It's sad that increased use by the public always leads to trashing of a stream. I guess there is no way to combat it. My youngest grandson, who is 16, is really getting into flyfishing now, with a Fenwick Graphite rod I gave him earlier this year. He caught and released a lot of sunfish and bass on the trip. But the litter problem really upset all of them. I have a friend, a Jewish carpenter, whom you should get to know. If you do, your life will never be the same.
ollie Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Yeah, that's been a real problem for some time now. I wish they would have set a limit to how many canoes or kayaks are rented out on the river. When I was younger there were only like a couple of outfitters on the river, now I couldn't tell you how many there. It has gotten out of hand, but the money talks. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Guest Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 The river was muddy from drunks wallowing around last Saturday. Beer cans littered, profanity spewed, disorderly, mad drunks. I wouldn't take a kid unless it was middle of the week or post canoe season.
Quillback Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Nothing beats watching drunks waller in the mud, LOL.
