Hog Wally Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 A year ago was the beginning of a drought and heat wave that shut the river down for good fishing now it's the opposite. Guess I will never get to fish. Guess I will do dishes and laundry. The Riverpro sits Waiting for the walleye. I'm headed to Truman! Take care
ciRe Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I was hoping that this rain wouldn't affect the Meramec like the Mississippi. Well I was wrong. All we can hope is that it goes down faster than the Mississippi again. BTW this is the first year I have my own boat and it's just sitting there still...
gramps50 Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I know how you feel ciRe, I bought my joh boat last Feb, was putting in at GWP and exploring the 2 lakes and the Meramec then the water all but disappeared. Only have a 20 hp so I don't feel comfortable in the big lakes so I guess I will seek out some smaller ones. Heard there is a nice CA lake down by Rolla. Haven't had the boat in the water since Aug 2012
Hog Wally Posted June 2, 2013 Author Posted June 2, 2013 I have a brand spankin new Riverpro but what good is it when the dang river is flooded all the time. I mainly bought it cause I was tired of the low water shutting me down.
gramps50 Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Water levels are high everywhere, we just made a trip to OK over the weekend and every river and creek we crossed was out of it's banks or near being out. It would really suck to have a new toy and not be able to play with it. The ramp in Kirkwood is probably open but I don't think I would want to put a boat in the meramec when it's in flood like it is, today West Watson was closed at Hwy 30 which I think was a 1st for this year. The water was getting to a decent level a couple of weeks ago, I saw some boats out in it fishing down by Fenton. Hopefully it will go down again so you can try out the new boat.
Hog Wally Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 River is almost pretty again. Hit it hard this morning from red horse to meramec caverns. 3 1/2 lb largemouth was biggest fish with a lot of keeper smallies. No whites no spots no walleye Lots of idiots after 1. Water is still hard to read. Can't really find the seams and gravel drop offs it's just a lot of moving water. If you like fast bass action grab a bait caster and a chrome and blue 200 bandit. I hope none of you are the idiot at the caverns preaching at me about jet boats and how we are ruining the river. He felt pretty stupid after I finished my ice cream cone and casted twice in front of him and caught 2 14" smallies. I don't care if you wanna paddle around in a kayak but don't expect me to feel sorry for you after you ridicule me

Gavin Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Yelling randomly? His problem not yours..Congrats on a fantastic new ride! . .
Hog Wally Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 Actually I took my family by boat to the caverns as we usually do and he wondered over to us where we beached the boat. He figured me to be one of the many joy riders with big blocks in there boats. I told him he should be happy that so many people take a interest in the river in so many different ways. It's like I say as I pass a golf course full of knuckleheads hitting a ball around. I thank god everyone isn't like me or there wouldn't be any fishn spots left 90% of the people on the meramec don't have a fishing pole. We need it that way. These inboards and big outboards scare me at times myself. These folks have money and want to spend it on the river. By the way the bass fishing is top notch in my opinion during peak traffic When I am fishing I always wave boats by. Tell em full throttle. Less wake to battle at full throttle. I was a canoe fisherman for ten years Its alright. You just get stuck fishing the whole river which ain't bad now but normally 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water. Jet boat will keep you on the 10% all day. When I canoe fished I had to tie on a lot of different lures when they snag up in bad water -they gone !

Agreed, there are plenty of idiots on both sides of the power boating fence but the rivers need all the advocacy they can get.
