Justin92297 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 My sixteenth birthday Is coming up in a few months and I was wondering if there were any jobs out there relating to fishing that someone my age could get. Any suggestions?
fishinwrench Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 When I was 16 I worked full time in a bait shop/marina, and part time for a music store (moving pianos, polishing instruments and sweeping floors). Hated the music store but I loved the baitshop gig! If you have one fairly close just start hanging out there until someone finally hands you a minnow bucket or a flat of nightcrawlers. And forget what you learned in school....A dozen = 15
mic Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 It also depends if you want the money or the experience. If the experience is the priority, volunteer if you can't find a paying gig. I assume gas money is the priority though. Was when I was 16. Good luck.
Justin92297 Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Yea gas money and maybe some extra money I can put towards fishing gear. But I'll check out some bait shops. Thanks
stlfisher Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 If you are in St. Louis, I would look at Bass pro shop or Cabela's. It might only be stocking shelves, but find a particular area of fishing you like the best. Is it the boats, rods, reels, lures etc...whatever it is concentrate on learning as much as you can about that specic area. Aim to go to college after high school. Keep your eyes and ears open when a company rep comes to visit. let it be known you are interested and want to learn. It might not be sexy nor quick, but if you have the knowledge and put your time in, an opportunity will eventually present itself. You gotta start somewhere, but get that degree.

If you have good mangers/bosses they will see this and you will be rewarded. Reps will also see this. Too many times people complain about having a "bad job" and don't make it anywhere, its very rare that you get a good job without busting your a$$. On a side note BPS or Cabela's would be great just for the discount you would probably get on merchandise as well.
Justin92297 Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 That sounds like a good plan, I'll check out both stores. Thanks
