Quillback Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 On the point at 0515, fish started biting soon after that, c-rig Zoom Ol Monster and a Megabug fished on a Biffle head both worked well for about 45 minutes. It's a bite almost every cast for a while then it shuts off completely. Caught some decent LM's and Spots on that early bite then went looking for more fish. Fished some brush with the Jika and only had one hook-up, after doing that for a while and doing some c-rigging and not getting a bite, I moved to a drop shot point and picked up spotted bass here and there on the drop shot. Not a great DS bite, but managed to put a dozen or so DS fish in the boat. Wind started blowing pretty hard, wake boats were appearing so by noon I was on the trailer. Seems to me the spots are a bit bigger on average this year than last year, good percentage of the spots I caught on the DS were around that magic 15" mark. Lots of fun on a light DS spinning rod. Water temp 84.
abkeenan Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Nice report. The KY's this year really do seem to have some shoulders on them don't they?
flyman Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Good report. I plan on trying the ol monster this sat. You ever fish evening hours? I started going tues and thurs nights. Last week I did some trout fishing at Taney. This week I may try some evening fishing around Kimberling City. Not sure yet.
Bill Babler Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 That evening bite can really be tough. Jason has it down, but did comment that the bites are few and far between. The heat, sun and boats just pound them down and it takes awhile for them to recover. Quill the bigger K's are really showing up this year. Our best size has been on the drop shot which is strange as most often you will catch them on top. Drop shot has really gotten a lot tougher the last couple of days and they are hard to see. Some of the guides are fishing the deep trees to suspended fish and that is really hard, but fun if you can find them. Did have some nice fish today, with around 30 to the boat with a solid 14 pound bag of mixed K's and LM. Pretty slow on the Jaw's today and nothing on the Whites. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
fishingaddiction Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Nice report Quill. What are you using on the DS? Got out early Sunday morning, top water bite was tough, so switched to the shaky head, and caught several LM up to 3 lbs. Drug a water melon red DR, and picked up a few more. All in all a very slow morning, with big boats pulling skiers, I was off the lake at 9:00. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.

All in all a very slow morning, with big boats pulling skiers, I was off the lake at 9:00. Been using Zoom Finesse worms in Old Purple or Plum. The fish have been aggressive, I've been getting quite a few bites on the fall. But the fish seem to be moving a lot so it's hard to stay on top of them.
fishingaddiction Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Those colors are certainly good, and have produced for me. I have also had good luck on the Zoom Z drop worms in morning dawn & green weenie. Also Zoom meat head in watermelon red. A lot depends on the water clarity. I know what you mean about staying on them. I will find them on the humminbird drop down, and drift off them. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Quillback Posted June 26, 2013 Author Posted June 26, 2013 I picked up a couple of bags of those Z drop worms, haven't tried them yet, but they look good.
jeb Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Agree that the spots are nice on TR, and bigger on average that the Beaver ones. I attribute that to the longer minimum length to keep them, which is why I'm not in favor of the AGFC's idea to decrease the size limit from 12" to "keep 'em all". Looks like a good day on the water, Jeff! I like that summer DS bite. Some of the most consistent fishing of the year if you can find good structure that will hold them.
