motoman Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I wouldn't worry to much about those jerks in the world. What goes around comes around.......and it probably already has, ten-fold. - I'm pretty certain those guys that think they are big cause they own a construction company, are drowning in debt. Will be out if business in a couple years, with creditors wanting that fancy boat/truck back they could never afford to begin with. Then they start up another equally crummy construction company under a different name and let the cycle continue. - I would venture to guess, the company name Advanced Construction means the only way in heck this guy will finish a job is if you DON'T pay him in advance. Cause if you did, he would just take the money and run. - Or maybe Advanced Construction to him is using a tape measure?........pretty advanced stuff all right! - Don't be too upset with a guy who lives a life of turmoil, debt, not answering phone calls (cause he knows collectors are after him), throwing away or ignoring mail, because they know its a stack of 'final notice' bills. All the while trying to keep up the appearance of being cool with some boat/truck/home/wife-girlfriend he could never afford in the first place. - For YEARS I dealt with those jokers on a daily basis at work. They aren't nearly as cool as they think they are. - They think cause they can swing a hammer; they should be the boss. Quickly to find out you have to be able to do more than swing a hammer to run a business. It helps to be able to form a coherent sentence too.......that's where they stumble........or maybe the stumbling is just from the dysfunctional amounts of alcohol their life is fueled by? - Just my 2 cents from a guy with TONS of daily and direct interactions with goons like that guy at the ramp you had the misfortune of smelling there josh.:-( - Ouch! Sorry for my abrasive language there folks.(I edited the language) I forgot where I was and got a bit mouthy.:-( My sincerest apologies. I'm a bit embarrassed about getting so jazzed up over this issue. Too many frustrating run-ins with these kinda fools over the years, boiled to the surface in my above post. Again, I'm terribly sorry if I offended anyone. - Ill be happy to delete the entire post if anyone would like, no hurt feelings. I just thought I'd leave it up as a reminder to keep my cool in such a great place; and not ruin it for others.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Moto Im in construction and didn't offend me. Pretty accurate description of many contractors I know to be truthful. But then again truthful to many professions. Don't stress it man we all get frustrated and its nice to know occasionally we can vent in a place others understand it. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
kwall Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 This is my approach to the inconsiderate ones out there --- go on and go nuts and wear yourselves out on the weekend , I'll just stay out of your way and leisurely catch my Jacksalmon early in the morning
ness Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 One of the things I try to do -- and it's not easy, and I'm not always successful -- is to not let nasty folks get to me or ruin my day. If you come in and treat the a-hole like an a-hole back, you'll just get more a-hole. Offer to help them out, and maybe squeeze in a little subtle counseling on ramp etiquette, and you may never have to whip out your guns. Or you could do like me and get a canoe and avoid all the testosterone. John
Rodmaker Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 JUST......WALK.......AWAY.....! These situations will just ruin my day. And I'll be darn if I'm gonna let that happen. My time is much to important to me....IMO. I certainly enjoy the nice people I run into though. Seems tp be lots of them.
RSBreth Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Ha ha - like having a canoe gets you out of the "idiot zone" these days Ness - the play kayak is the new jetski where I live. Maroons everywhere here on the Finley and James. And they don't know how to launch or take out, either.
Members Cholgerson Posted July 6, 2013 Members Posted July 6, 2013 Not all contractors are idiots though this one seems to be. Those of us professional builders despise clowns like this. They act this way on the job site, lumber yard and at association meetings. They are the ones who give us a bad name. Now, I too carry but I hope I never have to use it. I think my wife is worth a second look but discretion and respect will be required from me. I'm a man and I get it. We can't help noticing but we can keep from gawking. I have been hitting the rock pretty hard this year in my new bass boat. I tool have stories I could tell about idots on the water. Im sure most of them have nothing to do with construction. I prefer not to let them ruin what I love to do. I took no personal offense by the post. I feel something should be said to minimize a possible stereotype of great profession.
lee G. Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I was in the building trades for 30 years, Most of the guys were ok, But there were some real pains in the rear, lol I didnt take offense.

With a big honkin' bass boat, or about any boat, you're pretty much gonna have to use the public ramps. I drag my canoe into places where I never see a person all day. But I kinda look for places like that to begin with. John
Members knuck Posted July 16, 2013 Members Posted July 16, 2013 I'm jumping in real late but wow to the original post! 1st a rude gawker might get shot down for his inability to keep his eyes inside his skull and then the profession that has kept me employed for 30 years gets lambasted by at least 4 posters by my count. Never a dull moment on OA. As to boat ramp "fun" I'm sure most everyone on the forum have a few favorite stories. What do you do about boat ramp knuckleheads, ask if they need help or sit back and watch the show. For a little guilty pleasure pull up "boat ramp follies" or something similar on youtube, its pretty amusing stuff. Steve in STL
