Al and others,

You know I respect you, so please view the following in kindly light.

Brian,

Your offense came only partially from the use of the "C" word. True, that alone would have been enough. However the aggressive, denigrating tone of voice, the easy demonizing of one political party, and the misogynistic attitude toward women were equally offensive. Being "bold" and "speaking your mind" are no virtue when you haven't thought things through first.

I am a a fiscally conservative Democrat. I will readily admit some of the nationally known Democrats annoy me. Some of the politically correct follies irritate me. At times, I wonder if anyone understands a budget.

On the other hand, I will never support a party that uses it power to benefit the rich at the expense of the hard working but poor and lower middle class. I will not support a party whose every policy demonstrates a belief that they hold the only answer to life and all the rest of us should shut up and live exactly as we are told to live. I cannot support any group that uses sex, race, and religion as manipulative tools to bait the electorate into to giving them another term in office. One of the great ironies of modern day politics are those who act as if they are entitled telling the masses that they should vote to reduce entitlements.

Brian, the above is bold and outspoken. Hopefully, you can see and understand the difference between what I have written and what you posted originally and what you later posted in apologetic explanation.

Phil, you know I do not contribute to many of the political discussions. I apologize for entering this one, and I promise to go back to bemused silence for a while. However, every once in a while we all need someone to remind others of a saying attributed to Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt." The original source for that proverb was probably Proverbs 17:28. We all should thank the gentleman for so ably demonstrating that truth.

RPS I don't recall making an. Apologetic explanation. The sheer volume of your response and explanation illustrates your guilt about yanking the big "O" lever. (Twice...)

I meant every tiddle and every meaning you may have gleaned from my post- I said it the way it is.

Funny times we are in- stating the obvious makes you a radical. Political correctness for the sake of folks that can't defend their positions. (And as a result wear their feelings on their sleeves)

I make no apology to you at all. And- when I get home from my double shift I'm drankn' some darn "cold beer"... I figure the first 4-6 hrs of this double shift pretty well goes to the baby birds with their mouths wide open. (Baby birds with "O" stickers on their cars- blah ha ha...)

We can have fun with this... But please don't imply that I apologised, I find that offensive.

Back to the original post- I stand by every word, the gal is a tool, in a sea of tools, elected (unfortunately) by the blind growing majority of takers in this country.

This. For what it's worth, I don't actually identify with either party. I don't think I lean left but if I do it is only a hair. There are ways in which I'm very conservative, and others where I'm liberal. But as to my value as a human being, it doesn't matter...... unlike a certain poster on here seems to say. I have friends very far on both sides of the political spectrum. All of them good people, despite wildly divergent beliefs. Strong opinions are great but a disdain for people on either side is just ridiculously limiting.

Although I certainly lean liberal on many issues (and conservative on some), I really, really try to give those who disagree with me the respect of listening to their viewpoints and trying to put myself in their place. I also try to get past the simplistic sound bytes and look for more thoughtful stands on issues. Such was the case with the original issue in this thread. I pointed out that there could be very good legal reasons for making LEGAL language gender neutral. Of course, we all know that "fisherman" means one who fishes, not only a man who fishes. But it's quite possible that an attorney would try to make hay on the "man" part of it if by chance they were representing a woman. It PROBABLY wouldn't fly in court, but why take the chance? It costs little to change the language, and it doesn't affect you or me in the least. Yes, it's not very important in the whole scheme of things, but I question the denigration of the legislators "wasting time" on this. Heck, it probably took them a half day to bring it up, debate it, and vote on it, and then it's a job for the bureaucrats who aren't elected to implement it.

And by the way, just so there's no misunderstanding, my wife is more liberal than I am.

What I really hate is the assumption that anybody on the other side is stupid or has a hidden, nefarious agenda. I've grown to thoroughly detest the phrase, "drinking the kool-aid". It implies that the person you're talking about believes something (bad) without thinking it through at all, only listening to some leader and following them right down the line. It also implies that you have all the answers. Nobody has all the answers. Nobody, and no political philosophy, is right all the time. But when you tell me that I'm not only wrong and you're right, but that I must be either really stupid or a really bad person for believing the way I do, you've already lost all chance of swaying me with your arguments, let alone having me see if we have some common ground to work together. You've made an enemy, plain and simple. And that, my friends, is the biggest thing wrong with this country today...too many people look upon the other side as the enemy instead of a possibly misguided American who loves this country just as much and wants just as badly to fix its problems.

And, at the point Al describes above, any "discussion/conversation" passes from "I really super-strongly disagree with you", to nothing but name calling.

Feelings... A bunch of discussion about feelings..

I specifically chose the kool aid Avatar for the very reasons stated. The avatar gets directly to the point.

Can we get back to the original post and off the "you hurt my feelings" trend. I "feel" like we are about to break into KumBaYa or talk about how we wish our dad would have came to our LaCrosse games... Good gosh.

The gal is nuts. Period.

We are hopelessly bankrupt and we are going to waste valuable time and money on such nonsense.
