wc1063 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I hear ya, everytime I get called in to work, especially on the weekends, I'm thinkin I should be out fishing!!!
Feathers and Fins Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 Hey Doc, Picture the kids on the Bow hooked up to a Gar bigger than they are as its jumping around and making hard runs. Now if that doesn't get you out picture this. THE BIG SMILES on the kids faces during and after the fight. Yes I play dirty, but I know your weakness and that's the smiles on the kids faces... Have fun chasing Gar https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Crap.....all this fuss over gar fishing. First he gets me trolling, then he gets me wanting to chase stripers, and now I'm actually thinking about throwing for gar just to pass the time and have some fun. Might even clean and grill one. Just so I can imitate Glen and Mitchell from Swamp People "that gar's some good eatin' man. Oh ye-yah baby!!" F&F = Evil influence and chief disturber of my bass fishing habit Cook one up! I want a 2nd opinion on the gar eating, F&F eats about anything that swims, walks or flies and he always says it's fine eating. I don't trust his taste buds.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 Go catch one and cook it yourself. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Old plug Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Gar fishing is new to me. It all started because a week or so ago i caught a big one on a plastic worm. I think it is really exciting but I do not want any to eat. I caught 2 every evening Monday thru Thursday last week. There seems to be a school up the cove all about the same size from 40 to 41 inches long. They have really made my day during this slow period. I used a bait casting outfit with 12 lb test. Next week I am going to take a light spinning rod up there with 8 lb test and have even more fun. I know there is at least one larger than what I have been catching. I have seen some arches on the depth finder that indicate that. Also a few rolls that appeared to be a much larger fish. I hooked onto a big one Thursday evening and the initial run was about 40 to 50 ft. Before it pulled off. I never seen it but I sure wish I had. I have been thinking about using some kind if attractant on the nylon.
nathanhooper Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Yea, F&F does it to us weak willed folks(actually just ADD is all he preys on). I joined the forum because I was in hot pursuit of walleye and someone pointed me here. Then I read his article on stripers and think "I can do that"... Gar would be a nice break, but I'm still holding off for now. But I sure am glad for the write up of it because I have always wondered what I'd do if I hooked into one, now I know. I had never even contemplated fishing for them. I don't watch tv much so never seen it done or heard of it.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 It is my Mission to put fishing back in fishing And in that mission if I have to use the Nuclear option of telling Parents how much fun it will be for the kids then I'm pressing the button Kids hooked on fishing beats kids hooked on video games and drugs! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

J-Doc Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Maybe he will slide me a sample of some gar and I'll grill/smoke it on the Holland and let everybody know how it turns out how's that?
