DADAKOTA
I am floating/fishing the Gasconade from Hwy 133 to just below HWY 7 in a couple weeks. It will be about a 9 mile float. I have never floated the gasconade this far up. Any idea as to how long this float will take? Is this an area of canoe/tube flotillas? Anything else I should know? THanks
Gavin
Gasconade Hills would be the nearest outfitter and they are well upstream of 133..Should be a nice float.
Smalliebigs
That is my favorite section of the Gas......I did it three years ago and caught really nice fish. You won't see any flotillas but, the river seems to start going underground a bit towards HWY 7 and you will loose a little bit of flow. You really need to eliminate the unproductive sections on this stretch and fish the good sections hard, if you fish hard it's going to take you 10 hours. As you put in at 133 there is about a mile stretch and then a hard left hand turn in the river....fish that hole hard....then the river flows straight as arrow for almost three miles and then makes two really hard right hand turns...two very small springs that are not marked on maps flow out of Richland there....once again fish this area hard, I caught some real nice fish there, you will know your there when you see a road on the opposite side of the river. This section has a low gradient and you wouldn't think it would be good by it's looks but, in all the wood thru that 2 mile stretch you will find some quality fish, trust me. There are a few good holes on the south side of the river on the last four miles of the float near Rio rd....they look real pretty but, don't fish as well as the little spring area below Richland I was speaking of above. I think you will like that float it's aesthetically pleasing and it fishes better than what I was told before I floated it. I think you will enjoy.....I tried to be as specific as I could. DADAKOTA
Appreciate the info... Floated a lot from where the little Piney dumps in down to Jerome when I was living in St. James. Lots of smallies and lots of goggle eyes. Looking forward to floating way up river. Thanks again.
Gavin
The Gasconade, does waste (lost flow under ground)near 7 then emerges a couple miles above the Roubi..17 I think. Hazelgreen gauge on the USGS would be your best indicator for the stretch you are contemplating. Bring some walking baits and buzzers...
