exiledguide Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 RIP JJ Cale. He wrote among other stay awake, gettin' down the road songs and what I think should be the drivers national anthem ......"They Call Me The Breeze"
Mitch f Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Wheeeeeeooooouuuuuuu.........Mr Breeze! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
bfishn Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 "Okie" playing now, "Really" on deck. I saw him in KC in ('77?) another century, he sat in a straight chair slidin' and singin' by himself the whole show. Great time. I raise my glass... I can't dance like I used to.
Greasy B Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Gosh I wish I would have seen him live. Makes me treasure all the great artist I have seen over the years. Just in the last couple of weeks I've read obits for Ray Manzarek and Bobby Blue Bland, our world is a little more empty every time one of the old school musicians pass. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
bfishn Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 My fishing buddy tells a second hand story of a guy that got invited to bring his harmonica to a remote cabin on an unnamed OK stream. Who showed up but JJ and Eric... they all jammed on the porch till the wee hours. What a hoot that would have been! I can't dance like I used to.
exiledguide Posted July 27, 2013 Author Posted July 27, 2013 Back when we bought vinyl I had a double disk "Once More From The Road" the Breeze followed "T For Texas" on one side..........maybe the best side ox any LP album I ever found Put that on a cassette along with some "Little Feet", "Muddy" and the "Wolf" and you had no problem gettin' down the road.
Mitch f Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 My all time favorite was Woody Guthrie, didn't necessarily agree with his politics but he was so darn good. He wasn't a great guitar player or singer but his lyrics were the best I've ever heard. They were always truthful and based on his experiences. You can't make up something that good without actually being there. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
LarrySTL Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 He was a totally great song writer, including Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" and lots of other stuff. http://intervenehere.com
