Read on another site that the rock was the clearest it's been in 30 years, with 30-40 ft vis. Any truth to that rumor?

Absolute truth. I saw it with my own eyes mid may. We were in 30 feet of water by the dam and could see the bottom. It was unreal! Kimberling city area had less clarity. But, that was the clearest I can recall seeing it in years.

Yes. There was a thread going around back in April which an article link about divers saying how far they could see this year when under the water. Maybe go back and dig around in previous posts during that time. I posted back in April after a weekend trip down there that it was indeed the clearest I have even seen it. Was in Jakes Branch in the dam area and hung my A-Rig on a dock cable in about 25-30ft of water and could see those white baits just a clear as day. It was unreal.

Wow. It looks like I may need to head that way to do some diving. Do you think the water will hold more than 20ft vis until September?

Ha. I haven't been down to the Rock since early June so I don't know what the water clarity is at this point in the dam area. If you are wanting to dive that area I need a chain that is laying at the bottom of the cove in about 50+ feet of water reattached to our wake buoy! Don't want to have to drop another concrete anchor in the lake and get more chain for it. Ha.

It's not near as clear as it was. I would say dam area is about 9 ft. Just a guess from what I seen two weeks ago

Thanks for the updates. I was going to head that way either the end of August or early October. Hoping for 10ft or better visibility. I'll dig through some old reports and see what to expect.
