riverrat Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Didn't mean to imply I caught Hybrids on the dolphin-I used this bait for the first time last Sunday. Lots of topwaters will catch hybrids, the trick is finding the mean SOB's.
Smalliebigs Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Dude, now your talking fish wet dreams here....I am honestly new to the Hybrid world as of three years ago and shame on me.....Temperate bass and Smallies are at the top of my personal pedistal for fishing....Those are my two favortie fish to persue and catch....they both make me all giddy. To catch Hybrids on topwater well I can only dream of that because I haven't but, only because I'm new of the Temperate bass scene...it will come someday. You crack me up riverrat....you sound as hopelessly adiccted as I am You ever try for hybrids on topwater? My brother and I got into a school of 5-8lbers one evening this May. Non stop action for an hour and half. We could actually see their wake coming from 20 feet away. Hard not to be trigger happy, and when they they hit they mean business, like a cherry bomb going off.
Smalliebigs Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 oh, and I know Wally is a Hybrid addict as well as well as the EYES

moguy1973 Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I really like the KVD Sexy Dawg and it's super easy to walk. I even had a 4" pumpkin seed smack the crap out of it yesterday. The bait was an inch longer than it was for crying out loud. I've heard the Strike King hooks aren't the greatest, but I didn't miss many yesterday once they committed. The price is right too, and so are the colors. I think if Damiki had some better shad colors they might be worth the $12 price tag... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
MOsmallies Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I don't know if this thread is gonna cost me money for a dolphin and a realis...or if its going to save me money because I already have exactly the Dawg bait in the same color thats hanging in the mouth of that 18 incher. Nice fish guys !! Larry - The Zip-n-Ziggy is definitely a good bait, but too small IMO for the bigger ozark streams. But it was the perfect size for the smaller tributary we fished on this day. One thing about it though is that the stock hooks are the worst I have ever seen on a bait. Change em out with Size 6 KVD Mustads and you're all set. I prefer the dolphin or sammy on most floatable ozark streams.
LarrySTL Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Thanks Paul ...and Scott too ! http://intervenehere.com
Smalliebigs Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Soooo true, especially of that bait and as you were saying you would think with Owner being involved the Cultiva co.... they would put good hooks on but, no those things are hateful......but I won't dog the Zip n Ziggy it catches the hell out of fish, I just haven't caught any big fish on it??? probaly user error....the Northern creek smallie Paul caught on it was pretty darn nice...lol Larry, Paul's right I have changed out all of my top water baits with the KVD Mustads, they are sticky and at Walmart ....you're hook up ratio will go up trust me....well at least it did for me bigtime Larry - The Zip-n-Ziggy is definitely a good bait, but too small IMO for the bigger ozark streams. Wayne SW/MO Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 One of the easiest things that can help with topwater hookups is to hesitate. I know too well that it is easier said then done, but it will help. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
LarrySTL Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I wonder if the Dolphin or the Ziggy would work best along the shoulders of I-44 ? http://intervenehere.com
