Josh Holt Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 There are many different ways to catch fish in the summer time and early fall, but every guide and bass fisherman have different patterns that they use to target fish. I just go to what i have confidence in and the patterns that have worked for me for years. Yesterday i found bass at all kinds of depths and stucture they were hitting thats all i can say. We started out doing some deep cranking around some trees and brush that produced some fish all shorts to small keepers. Then we switched to a jig picked a couple up on that but what dominated the day was a big worm and a beaver in the brush about 12ft to 25ft our better fish were out of the deep trees and brush piles. Caught about 30 to 40 fish from 3pm to dark with 8 keepers the biggest was a 3 1/2 to 4lb fish. It all boils down to if your trying to catch fish with new baits and can't get any go to what makes you feel confident go to your confident baits on your baits you can catch fish on. This is my stratagy and it has always paid off for me. Make multiple throws at cover with multiple baits. Thats how i caught the fish in the picture was fishing brush i went through four different baits before i found one he wanted and when he did i caught several more fish out of the same spot. But you just got to fish and see what works for me it is still a big worm bite and creature baits have been putting more fish in the boat for me then anything.
Bill Babler Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Nice Report Thanks. Don't know why that Gal at Cape Fair Marina quit doing the reports. She was doing a very nice job. Glad you have taken over up there. It keeps us intune http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Quillback Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Thanks for the report, you're doing a heckuva lot better than I am.
Josh Holt Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 Well fished the night tournament tonight the bite was a day bite for sure cause when it got dark they got lock jaw. Had 3 keepers before dark and when it got dark i maybe caught 5 fish all night night but before dark i caught around 20 biggest was about 3lbs.
Champ188 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Thanks for keeping us up to date on the James River bite. And you are right about staying with your confidence baits. It's good to try new stuff or polish up on something you aren't very good at sometimes. But when you really need to catch em, better reach for what you believe in and stick with it.
tapout Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Very good report. When it works it works. My night fishing has been painful this last month. I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar
flyman Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I went to Cape Fair last night from about 5 - 9. Fished the various places from CF to Bridgeport but caught most on Flat Creek. There were bait fish skipping all over the place. Didn't chase the topwater bite but if there was one close I would throw a Pop-r or a shallow square-bill (square bill seemed best). I cast it to the spot they surfaced, paused 2-3 seconds and start the retrieve and as soon as I did, wham! Shallow running square-bills in the flats, Texas rigged worms in the brush, shakey head with a 6" inch robo worm along the bluff banks, and a Jewel finesse jig with a tiny Paca Craw on drop offs and through cedars have been what has been working for me.
curtisce Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I was up on the point at the mouth of flat creek last week. Lots of bait in the water Surface activity too but after waching for a while and not catching anything I found that they were gar. Long arcs on the finder as well. Seems likr the bass and gar don't like running together The answer may not lieĀ at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check
