Guest Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Its bad, USGS gauge says: 23.71 feet & 28,100 cfs http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site_no=07188653&PARAmeter_cd=00065,63160,00060
Guest Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Little Sugar is now the Very Big Sugar, the golf courses along 71 are all flooded, water is surging through the fairways, damage is going to be extensive and expensive. It's as bad, if not worse, than the flooding we saw, several springs ago. Tanyard creek was almost over 340, and I was told that they closed 340 at the bridge for a spell this morning. The new golf cart bridges built over Tanyard are almost completely submerged and the maintenance Bldg. near the confluence of Tanyard and Sugar is flooded with a power pole leaning on it. Crazy stuff, let's hope that there isn't anymore heavy rain for the next few days so this water can run off. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site_no=07188838&PARAmeter_cd=00065,63160,00060
Quillback Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I was told that 71 near the MO border was almost shut down this morning because of Little Sugar flooding.
bfishn Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 At 5AM, there was a foot of water over 71 between the rest area entance & exit. In 28 years here I've never seen that. I can't dance like I used to.
ollie Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 Yea, Big Sugar hoovers around 10 CFS right now normally. 22,000+ is WAY out of control. Elk is getting just as bad. Someone from work sent me a pic of somewhere around Pineville and it didn't look so good. IF you want to see more pics of flooding on the Big Sugar go to Facebook and check out Creekside Campground and look at the pics they have posted from Powel. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Quillback Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Here's a couple of pictures I snapped today of what are usually dry creeks or have very little water flowing through them. These are tributaries to Little Sugar. Tanyard creek looking roughly north across 340. You can see the top of the golf cart bridge in the middle of the pic. This creek was practically dry a couple of weeks ago. The top of that bridge is probably at least 8 feet above the creek bed in dry times. Here's some flowing water running through the softball field, fence is taken out. The creek that is causing this flooding is located back in the trees. Another shot, you can see gravel that is deposited by the outhouse, outhouse has been moved about 50 yards.
Feathers and Fins Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I don't think I have ever seen tanyard that high. great pics https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Yeah pretty incredible, and the water had come down some before I took these pics.
Guest Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Nice pics!!! When you have time, could you check the culverts under Chelsea @ Windsor? Im curious to see what that pontoon park looks like.
Bassmaster21 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Does anyone know if the Elk River is Floatable? We have been planning on going out Saturday but all the rain is making me nervous. Would it be possible to float the Elk safely?
