It's amazing how much different those big lake smallies look compared to a big river smallie here. Up there they have small heads and big huge fat bodies and smaller tails, where here they usually have big head, long slender bodies, and large tails.

Those Yankee smallies are fat for sure. They talk like 7 lbers. (or better) are possible where those guys are fishing. I can't imagine catching a 7 lb. smallie.

from what they are saying on the bassmaster.com blog, they are so fat because of the invasion of the gobies. Prior to the, a 4lber was a good un. Now a 4lb is pretty normal, and it takes a 7+ to raise eyebrows.

This is a beast. I know he's holding it out quite a bit from him in the picture, but that's a pig. Cliff Pirch with a 5+lber it says.

Ended up as a 5lb 10oz fish and big fish of the day so far.
