J-Doc Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Dude that's a classic right there! Is that an old Starfire? You get all the fun projects don't you. Need marine repair? fishinwrench Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 The motor is a '58 Evinrude big twin 35hp. And yeah I'm looking forward to a test run.
Njardar Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 We picked this up last week and the dealer tried to sell us every aftermarket option under the sun, including a protectant designed to keep the boat "looking new for five years". We did not buy it, but it did make me think, is there a good aftermarket carpet protectant that you would recommend?
J-Doc Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Not that I know of. Keep it out of the sun. That's the best thing. And get some screws and secure those removable plastic storage trays and silicone them watertight. There is no lip to keep water out and if a lot of water gets beneath those plastic bins, the water is going to soak into the Styrofoam. That's dead weight, deteriorates the stryro and its adhesive properties. Waterlogged foam is never something anyone wants. Some know shy Tracker thinks that's acceptable. I saw a Lowe alum boat at Cabelas and their fix was stainless screws into the bin lip and I assumed sealed it off beneath. I'd seal it outside as well. Don't get me wrong, I like Tracker. I want the Pro 190 with the 115 ProXS. :-) I like that blue color better. Best looking Trackers I think. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. Feathers and Fins Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 Actually for the storage trays I sealed mine and drilled a hole in the bottom! They are my ice chest and work great for it. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
J-Doc Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Hope you have a drain tube or some way to let the water out. The new one I looked at was solid foam cut to fit the tray. Pull the tray, nothing but foam from deck to hull. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. Feathers and Fins Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 Yup its called the drain plug https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
fishinwrench Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I hate to see blown foam in a boat, especially in spots where it's impossible to take it out and replace (or eliminate) it. The crap does nothing but absorb all the nastiness below the floors and in the bilge, and retains moisture forever, shortening the life of everything else around it. It's 2013 for crying out loud.....QUIT USING FOAM IN BOAT CONSTRUCTION ! Incorporate sealed air bladders for extra flotation and noise reduction.
