Mitch f Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I fished on the upper Gasconade a couple of weeks ago to avoid most of the flood water. The fish we caught were shaped like what I would consider to be a northern smallmouth, they were shaped like a football. They had a semi humped back with small to medium sized tails. They were very fat and aggressive. This is in contrast to the normal Gasconade smallmouth I'm used to seeing at or below the SMA by Jerome. The Fish on the lower stretch have typically been long and thin with extra big tails compared to their bodies. You would think 30-40 miles wouldn't make that much of a difference in the gene pool. joeD Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 The Bevo Mill area of south St Louis used to be scrubby Dutch and German. Now it is Bosnian and Asian and Muslim with a sprinkling of good ole native hoosiers. People move out, people move in. Fish leave, different fish move in. But, most likely, your fish were inbred and stupid.
Old plug Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I think it is a difference is available forage. Plus maybe something in the habitat. That happens on LOZ at times with shad and conditions. Up where Wrench hangs out they are rarely without a lots of shad. I have seen it happen down here( about 4 mikes away) that while he has many we do not. The results are the bass down here do not have the heavy body if those up there. You would think that they would just run up there. Maybe some do but most will stay here.
Old plug Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Thats quite a announcement from someone that uses a glass of liquor as a represent himself.

exiledguide Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Back to the fish ...... I think the fish are they result of meth heads peeing into the watershed
joeD Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 I went to Sappington School on Gravois by Grants Farm. Steve Mizerany's wife was our "lunch lady." Big, blousy, bee-hived bottled blonde chomping on gum. Classic!
