Quillback Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Don't want to turn this into a discussion about fluoro and which lines are better or worth the money, as that horse has been kicked several times and it ain't getting up. However since switching to Seaguar Abrazx I've had very little issues at all. I guess its mostly a confidence issue, once you find something that works for how you fish then you stick with it. I tried some Sunline monofilament recently(like the diameter to line strength ratio), had two break offs on fish, and immediately took that line off the reel and put on some McCoy, which is my confident monofilament line. The only hybrid line I've used is P-Line and I thought that line was way more brittle than the Seaguar I'm using now. Abrazx is good stuff.
Al Agnew Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 I'm sitting here right now looking at the skull of a 4.5 ft. longnose gar, and their teeth are conical as well, although a little thinner for their length than those in the skull of the 31 inch walleye that I also have. And by the way, the gar only has one row of larger teeth on upper and lower jaws, though there is a row of very small, fine teeth just outside the row of big ones. Those tiny teeth are about 1/32 inch long on the very large specimen I'm looking at. They could probably abrade line, but probably not cut it outright. I suspect that what cuts the line with gar are their scales, which are razor sharp. And what cuts the line with walleye is certainly that cheek plate edge.
