Troutnut69 Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 The wife and I just got back from a great week down in South Padre Island. First time I'd been in that area and we really enjoyed ourselves to say the least. On top of all the great seafood and cold cervezas I managed to get in some fishing time off the jettys and in the surf. Timing is everything down here and I got lucky on this trip , the baitfish migration was in full swing and the fish were in an eating mood. I caught more spanish mackerel and ladyfish than I can even count and even had the opportunity to hook up with a couple bigger specimens (tarpon and kingfish) although I didn't actually land them. I'm hooked on the salt now , the flyrods will be making an annual trip down to the gulf from now on I'm pretty sure. Full report and pics on the blog... http://highplainsflyfisher.blogspot.com/
Greasy B Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Great report, thanks. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Flysmallie Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Awesome. I had the same type of experience this summer. The fly rod will always make the trip now.
marcusearlt Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Exciting report, glad it went so well. I too got my first taste of the salt this year, in August. I am hooked. Your really can't go down there and not get hooked on the beautiful scenery, great food and weather, and COOL fish!
