My grandson is 13 years old and he thinks being in the hunt every year is normal. I'm 72 and I can't believe it. Then I got to thinking I remember the 46 world series and I've seen the Cardinals in a lot of world series and living in St Louis actually got to go to a few games. 64 was the best. I also think that the people who run that ballclub and the minor league are about as good as there is.

I remember seeing the 64 world series in my dad's record collection, I'm guessing he would have agreed with you. They are a special organization.

Having lived in STL for 4 yrs and still visiting due to my wife's family (all STL all the time) I have total respect for the Cards as an organization. They do a great job and are awesome with the community. Were they playing the Tigers, I'd route for them. But sadly, as a native New Englander, I have to go with the home team and say GO BO SOX!!!!

The 1964 series was the first one I can remember. I was in 7th grade, and the school principal was a big Cardinals fan, so he had a TV set up in the auditorium and any teacher could opt to let their class go and watch the games. I don't think there was a single teacher who didn't. I was nearsighted even then, but had not gotten glasses yet, and the only way I could see the game on that little TV was to squint and even look through a tiny hole in my hand, and I was too embarrassed to have the girls see me doing that. So I didn't get to see all that much, but could listen, because the principal also loved the radio broadcasters on KMOX, so he also had a radio set up and the sound turned down on the TV.

I just finished reading the Halberstam book, "October 1964". It was interesting to read of all the racial undercurrents to that season. The Yankees were one of the last teams to sign black players, and only had a couple of black players on their team, while the Cards were one of the more integrated teams in the league.
