Quillback Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Launched in some heavy fog this morning about 0830. Went back to fishing the jig on shallow cover. That did not work quite as well today than it did Saturday. Threw a c-rig around for a bit also. Caught 9 bass, 2 keepers. Very light biters today, Saturday they just swallowed that jig, today, the ones I managed to get into the boat, were usually just barely hooked. I missed 3 big fish, two of them I never saw. Never knew they were on the jig, what happened was I'd throw it out there, think it hit bottom, lift the jig and feel something solid just like hanging on some wood. But then the wood took off - all of them pulled drag and got off after a few seconds, just never got the hook to stick. The one I saw I got up to the boat, looked to be a spot in the 3 - 4lb range, really hated to see that one get off. Another big bass encounter I had, was late in the afternoon as I was fishing a rock point, there were quite a few shad in the area. I was using a c-rig, had my rod under my arm, adjusting my bait, happened to look down at the trolling motor and see a big fish slowly swimming up to the boat. At first I think that it must be a carp, but got a good look at it, it was a bass, I'm thinking 6 or 7 llbs. I freeze and watch it slowly swim under the boat. I dropped my bait over the side, but she wouldn't go for it. Never saw her again. Big bass of the day was this fat 2 lb. spot caught c-rigging a Zoom Ultravibe Speed Craw. Took a picture of a Red Maple growing on a bluff, sunlight was a little bright so the picture doesn't do it justice. Saw 4 turkeys strolling in the woods. Water temp 64.
Champ188 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Good stuff, QB. Gotta love fall in the Ozarks.
motoman Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Great report, and love those pix quill! Beautiful fish and that picture of that maple came out perfect. Very cool how that bright red stands out on that bluff! - Those stories of the 'ones that got away', and those monster fish sightings really add fuel to my fishing fire. That stuff keeps me coming back!:-)
Pepe Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Thanks for the reports QB. I expect to finally get out of here and head that direction on Wednesday. Hope to see you on the water. we will be the guys in an older Triton with the orange OA sticker
Members wayne b Posted October 29, 2013 Members Posted October 29, 2013 hey quill I think I know were that pic was taken I fish the same spot. The pic is awesome by the way. I pass a maple on my way to work that is colored about the same that looks just like that but it is hard to get a pic of because of traffic. I need to be on the water soon but time is a issue if you see a maroon tracker 185 with a 90 merc stop to b.s
Quillback Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 I'll keep an eye out for you guys. I'll probably be fishing somewhere Thursday if the weather cooperates.
fishingaddiction Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Thanks for the report and pic's QB. I will be coming over to the Rock this weekend, and look forward to some great tree colors, and fishing. I will try and post a report on the Kimberling City area. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
