How the differences from plug to plug and brand to brand can make such a difference is what fascinates me.

I think a lot of it is the intersection of angler and lure. You have a bit of success with one lure of one brand, get confidence in it, fish it a lot, learn all its characteristics, and it becomes a terrific lure for you.

I try to make decisions on lures with some kind of rationale that seems to make sense (to me), but sometimes it all boils down to what I like fishing the most.

I've got some lead strips and plan on getting the rapalas to perfect suspendion next time I'm out. So... Any suggestions for a guy with a Jeep and a kayak that are within 45 minutes of 270x44? Or is this where I get in shape by paddling upstream 2 miles to float back down?

WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk.

Time spent fishing is never wasted.

I was down at pro bass yeasterday. I bought every pack of stic o worms in the 53/8 size inthe frost colorthat were on the rack. They got a real shad color about them. I tend tolean more towards that than white. I start with them pretty early just like early flukes.fish them that way also.

Kayser------ water temperature can slightly effect suspension. That is one of the advantages of the lead strips, it allows you to make quick adjustments. I do not like a perfect suspension anyway. I like a slow rise. you might try putting your lead on in different places on the lure you can effect its action action and the way it rises. Like anything else your going to need to play and practice with it.

Totally agree....

Then all you have to do is have enough of these go-to lures that you can catch fish under virtually any conditions. This is why I usually tweak all my lures in some way. Maybe it's over-kill, maybe it helps me pass time between fishing trips, maybe it's the confidence I get because I've tried to rationally figure out the fish catching characteristic of those lures and try to make that part better.
