Yeah, Boise State usually had one tough game a year and then a bunch of mediocre teams. It is easy to get up for one big game a year and go all out. It is much tougher to do that 4-5 times in the major conferences...much more physically and mentally draining.

I never thought about the need not to use all your plays, but big advantage if you don't have too. Good point.

I agree. And teams have seemingly figured out Boise State after they've spent a little bit too much time in the spot light. They still stomp their Mountain West counterparts (except Fresno) but they can't beat a top 25 opponent these days. I'm not sure they are much worse, I just think people started taking them seriously and they can't sneak up on anyone.

Not to keep going after the smaller schools, but this year's crop is even weaker than Boise. The biggest win between NIU and Fresno is..........Iowa. The Hawkeyes are a decent Big Ten team, but you're probably not mistaking them for Alabama.

I am watching the NIU/Toledo game. Jordan lynch is a nice playmaker. He is pretty much the whole team. No way they are 16th though.

I agree, but yeah, Lynch is fun to watch. I have never seen one player account for a larger percentage of his teams offense. It's not enough to say that he's a running quarterback-he's essentially their top running back. I think he would be a great QB most anywhere but the rest of the team probably isn't enough as we saw against Florida State last year.

I agree. There is more to ranking then just record, or it should be. That's why I like computers to do the ranking. If they are used right they can pick up on weak schedules or heavy ones and make adjustments. I know I've said it before, but no one can lead me to believe a coach can rank teams, he far to busy for that, and writers don't have time to check out every team either.

Not to mention that writers have their biases also. But next year it's the committee that will select the 4 teams bound for the playoffs. That should be interesting.

The one thing that interests me with the selection committee is how they'll view strength of schedule. Will a team be okay with a soft non-conference schedule if they get quality wins in conference? If not, is a game against Indiana or NC State (or any other middle of the road major team) sufficient for a "marquee" non-conference game or does it need to be against a real contender? Does it matter if the game is at home, on the road or neutral? Are FCS (1AA) opponents so hurtful to SOS as to be off limits to title contenders? Because those are the types of things that, say, the selection committee for college basketball would consider. How different or similar will this process be?

There are a lot of questions that even coaches and ADs probably don't have clear answers to.

There is no computer and no person or group that can or should make the rankings, That needs to be settled on the field and it should be.

I don't think there is time for a national conference with all the teams involved. Something has to eliminate some of the teams, Alabama shouldn't have to play Wyoming, but they shouldn't play a team they were beaten by in the National Ch. game either!

There is no reason a half dozen computer programs if written right couldn't determine the true strength, as close as possible' of teams and make realistic comparisons. Then settle it on the field, but you have to get the right teams to the field.

OTF, I HAVE YOUR ANSWER.

MONEY will dictate who gets in. Simple as that, I cannot imagine the "Committee" putting a school like ( for instance only ) Temple ahead of Bama or ATM or for that matter any bigger school with a higher draw power. Money will dictate.
