Feathers and Fins Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I don't think there is time for a national conference with all the teams involved. Something has to eliminate some of the teams, Alabama shouldn't have to play Wyoming, but they shouldn't play a team they were beaten by in the National Ch. game either! There is no reason a half dozen computer programs if written right couldn't determine the true strength, as close as possible' of teams and make realistic comparisons. Then settle it on the field, but you have to get the right teams to the field. Wayne I have outlined it several times how it could and should be determined. Settle it on the field period. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I do think teams would be smart to play their non-conference warm up games early. I know some teams like to have them as an R&R, but if they play them early they will have any bumps overwhelmed by better match ups. The fly in the ointment, in my mind, is this The one thing that interests me with the selection committee is how they'll view strength of schedule. If they follow the polls there will be no change. I can't imagine them waiting until the end of the year and saying -"Ok, here's our top 4."
Feathers and Fins Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Here is the real problem. If things stay as they are its pretty clear it will be Bama and Florida. But IMO Florida does not deserve to be there. It should be Bama and Ohio State. Bama goes because they are the Defending Champions if they stay unbeaten. Ohio should go 12-0 in 2012, still undefeated this year beats the Seminoles record. and keep in mind we still have 6 undefeated teams. and none of them play another undefeated. So who gets to go to where they are after all undefeated! And could stay that way. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
ozark trout fisher Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 That would be tough for OSU to potentially win 25 straight games and never play for the title in that span. Does it push them past FSU? It's hard to say, but you can't say the Buckeyes wouldn't deserve a spot if undefeated. It's all about whether the spot they deserve is available, and it probably won't be. It looks like the last year of the BCS could show why it's such a terrible idea in the first place. Ohio State is hurt in public perception because they're defense softens up when the get a massive lead-so it looks like they have a bad defense when they are really just resting starters late in the game and giving up points that way. That's how you get a 60-35 score against Illinois. Their defense was incredible for most of the game until it was basically so far out of reach for the Illini that it was pointless to keep going all out. Of course, OSU could lose to Indiana (LOL not happening) and Baylor could go down to Oklahoma State and all this chaos goes away, for the most part. But don't bet on it.
Feathers and Fins Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 That is the one thing I have to say about Saban I like. He doesn't like running up scores, there is a point that sportsmanship needs to be shown and some of these super high scoring games are very unsportsmanlike. You cant tell guys not to score but when you are up so much continuing with a high power air attack to keep scoring is not sporting. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Ohio State is still stinging from the sanctions I think. So Cal went a long way before the sanctions kicked in. The rewards of a little cheating never get reversed, so the pollsters are soft on them afterwards. If the remaining unbeaten survive it will reinforce the new format, who wouldn't want to see the 4 play for all the marbles. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
stlfisher Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I would have a hard time putting an undefeated Ohio State ahead of an undefeated FSU. Now the off field stuff may come into play, but FSU is the better football team IMO. They dismantled a very good Clemson team on the road.
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 One thing going against FSU is Miami and FL. Miami wasn't as good as thought and they won't get any extra points for beating FL. The Big 10's bowl record isn't generally stellar and that takes some of the points away from OSU. The Big 12 is gaining strength, but how much is hard to tell because they're all in conference now. The SEC has lost some perennials, or so it seems, and they're also all playing inside. The SEC has a lot more good teams than the Pac 12 and they get tied up all too often. Alabama playing LSU again to avoid a national Championship game, GA playing AL instead of FL playing AL? The bottom line is it will take a lot of good bowl match ups to determine who shines and who doesn't for this season. IMO! Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
