Members Clayton Bass Posted November 13, 2013 Members Posted November 13, 2013 I'd be real interested in seeing that decoy set up. I only hunt shallow water so all my decoys are texas-rigged. One of the best gear decisions I've ever made for waterfowl hunting. Edited to add: I saw the other thread after I typed this. It sounds like your using a variation of a long line set up with a very innovative way to set up the long lines. Interesting indeed. I would have to see it in person to really understand how it all works, I'm kind of a slow learner like that from time to time.
jdmidwest Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Don't sit around eating breakfast then come boating down a lane right at shooting hours at a public place ruining other hunting. This one is a pet peeve of mine. I know of a couple of public areas where there is a little restaurant just outside of the reserve. They draw the pill, then go stuff their gut till daylight. Get in a big noisy boat and go running down the lanes to their blind at daylight scaring everything off that has just gotten settled in. Then they leave about an hour or so later. Terrierman Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Speaking of Decoys I really need to do a write-up on how mine are done. If I told you 14dz could be put out in less than 20 minutes would you believe it? That question is for everyone but Ducky he has seen the set-up. With three guys we used to put out that many in about that amount of time. I read your method and it makes sense. Picking them up, bagging them and getting the boat loaded and back to the ramp was another matter. I never hated putting out lots of decoys except at Fountain Grove in that wader sucking mud, expecially when it was about an inch from the top of the waders. LIKE that you put out a ton of decoys.
Feathers and Fins Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Terrier, one nice thing about the set up is when they are out if hunting mud leave the weights on dry land and you don't need to go walking back though it just pull it in. In a boat its the same deal pull them to shore park the boat and load them up simple as it gets. On cold ice days it really is nice not walking in it or getting your hands soaked. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
moodyfour Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I enjoyed the lesser rules. 4 a.m means 4 a.m not 4:01 If you show up at the ramp at 4:01 you won't get to hunt with me that day. Better to be 2 hours early than 5 mins late... My father's favorite line!
