gitnby Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Was out in the boat fishing last week, and watched a guy shoot a deer with a bow. I saw the deer run after he was hit, and saw the guy tracking it, but not sure if he ever found him? After all of these years, I guess I didn't realize that it is legal to hunt on Corps land. *(in season, of course) Our house is on the Lake, butting up to Corps land, and I never even thought about it, and never have seen anyone hunting out behind our place. I sit out on the back deck and watch deer, squirrels, rabbits, fox and coyotes pass by all the time. With as bad as the fishing has been lately, I may have to break out the bow and the .22?
Feathers and Fins Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 You may want to check on the 22 before using it! Im not sure about TR but Beaver you can use shotguns with Bird shot for waterfowl or slugs for Deer, Bows are ok but Rifles are a no no. Also check any regs for distance from homes or roads. etc. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
duckydoty Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I hunt the Corps land around Table Rock. Just the bigger chunks though and at least 300 yards from any houses. I know a 223 is legal in Missouri, but I don't know about a 22. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners

gitnby Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 I will use the bow for deer. On second thought, a .22 wouldn't be a good idea, especially near water or homes. I have a CO2 pellet gun that would be a better option for rabbits or squirrels. Maybe I'll call the Corps just to check on any special regs?
96 CHAMP Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 i wander just how many serious squirrel hunters we have out here, and how many love the way those young greys taste i personally look forward to running after them every fall and love eating them young ones
gitnby Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 Biggest problem I have is finding the time to hunt. When I look out and see the Lake, I just have to go fish. But, I am going to pick off a few of those greys this week, if I can. My wife is Italian, and she has an old family recipe for Squirrel polenta that is fantastic! She braises the meat in olive oil, then simmers it in a big pot of red sauce and cooks it up. Then, she puts a big dollop of polenta on the plate, layers some thin-sliced mozzarella on top, and then ladles the sauce and squirrel on top.
96 CHAMP Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 i personally think there is no better table fare when it comes to wild game than those young greys or reds, my future wife at the time swore there is no way she would eat them, all i here now when fall is coming is go get some of those young greys!!! good luck deer hunting!!
gitnby Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 Got a note back from the Corps. The land between my house and the Lake is to be treated as any public hunting area. No special restrictions regarding distance from houses, caliber or methods used. Exceptions would be public parks or land in the incorporated areas like Kimberling, Branson, Indian Point, etc. Anyone know a good deer processor around Joe Bald area?
