mic Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I'm tying up a bunch of Wooly Worms to try out this season. I have a medium grade rooter neck, and I don't think I'll ever use the medium size feathers and thought might as well use them here. I've read one should use hen feathers because they move better in the water. I tried the ones I have, but the feathers are not long enough. Do you think the cock feathers will really make a difference? Tight Lines, MIC
fishinwrench Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I've never used hen hackle for a woolly. Cheap indian necks or low/mid-grade saddles are what you want.
jdmidwest Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Saddles are the best, but the webby parts of a rooster hackle will work too. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I've never used anything but rooster saddles. You can sometimes 2 or 3 flies out of one feather if you tie different sizes. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
