The Arkansas AD is the head of the committee! I expect to see Arkansas in the playoff next year even with a 4-8 record.

This committee thing should be a hoot, it will be like when the Cardinals select a new Pope. The committee will probably be sequestered in a locked down environment for however long it takes to figure out the top 4, after a few days of drama, a little puff of smoke will come out of the chimney and they will announce to the world the 4 teams for the playoffs.

Now Now Quill, there is no way if the SEC is involved that ( a little puff of smoke ) will ever do. More than likely a massive bon-fire with someone in a monster truck jumping it yelling HEY BUBBA WATCH THIS with the match-ups on a streamer on the back of the truck.

Im still trying to figure out how Condi got on the selection committee.

Not that I know her personally, but supposedly she is a huge sports fan. And, again supposedly, very knowledgeable about college FB. I'm more worried about the "Homer" people on the committee - Archie Manning for example.

Agree, I really don't get where they came up with these people. It should have been purely unbiased persons and an AD for a school is far from unbiased. I would like to have seen 13 people on it retired from sports or at least not affiliated actively working for a school.

They don't have to even be from football but with a working knowledge of how to judge strength of schedule, play of team etc. There is a host of X-coaches that would have been great that were detail orientated and such. Ones that come to mind are;

Bill Cowher

Bobby Knight

Madden

Don Shula

Joe Montana

Elway

Those guys would have looked at the games and play and though the system isn't perfect I would have felt better with people like that.

I don't know, I guess I just think the selection committee can't be worse than the "ratings and ticket sales mean everything" system that we currently have in place. We'll see if it solves anything soon enough, though.

He will be torn, poor guy, do I support MS for Eli and I, or bow to number one son and go with TN!

F&F while I don't disagree that your idea would work better also, but a basketball coach?? I think your list might be partially in the same vein as the AD's for some, Elway and Montana to be exact. I do think a committee of pro coaches, as you suggest, and long gone from college affiliation would work also.

The bottom line is the new setup just jumped from the frying pan into the fire in my IMO. At best the AD's will be guaranteed tie breakers and at worse openly bias toward school or conference. The conference bias is without meaning because every school in a conference shares in bowl proceeds.

Yeah I think the problem with the committee picked is hey will always be open to criticism and bias. The reason for the new format is to try and eliminate fan suspicions about bias from coaches and writers, so to overcome that they just upgrade to people likely to have the same bias and prejudice, duh!!!

There is no evidence that any coaches or writers showed any bias, but there were always matches and gas cans visible.

Wouldn't worry too much. Don't think Ole Miss our Tennessee will be in the running for a playoff spot anytime soon, so Archie shouldn't have anything to worry about:)

Tennessee isn't that far out, 1998. The same could be said of Missouri last year, especially given their overall record, yet the were 3 points away from being in hot pursuit.
