Another day we were floating the Meramec and paddled up the Huzzah confluence a bit to fish it a bit. Nothing at all going on when all of a sudden one raft, then another, then another, all packed with Muslims in robes and dark beards and turbans. I kid you not. One after the other, probably 50 or so in total. All men and boys. We didn't pay them any mind and they were friendly. I held up a large spot I had caught and they applauded. Later we passed them on the Meramec approaching Onondaga and the boys were getting rambunctious. Osama! Osama! one of them kept yelling. We felt it was probably time to get on down the river, hearing that.

Was this before or after 9/11?

Well, it didn't happen to me, but a guy I know was walleye fishing with live minnows at the big gravel pit hole below the 67 Hwy. bridge on Black River, back before the new bridge was built and the old bridge was just a hundred yards or so above that big, up to 50 ft. deed pool. He got snagged, and found he could reel in whatever it was very slowly. He figured it was a log until it got within sight, when he saw what looked like a bald head with a topknot. He'd snagged a dead person.

One winter I was fishing with Zipstick in my jet above Scotts Ford, close to Meramec Springs in the middle of January. Is was absolutely freezing cold and when we rounded the corner there was a guy sitting on the gavel bar dressed like one of those "Goth" types...all black clothing with weird hair and acting very strange when we went by. He disappeared behind a tree but kept one eye on us as we passed. We thought he was either just a complete dork, or performing some kind of ritual small animal sacrifice. We now refer to that spot on the river as "The Wiccan Hole"

I live on lake of the Ozark's what can I say. The incidents are to numerous to mention. Lets see.

The time a couple were visiting a bar on and left and forgot they left their 2 yr old in the dock. It was close too. A hour before they realized they left left the baby walking around on the dock. By that time the patrol was waiting for them.

People having sex in public. Ive seen this 3or4 times. One time a old restored cruiser was drifting late one sunday evening in Bough Bay and there they were naked a jay birds with her perched on perched on the rear railing. I seen this another time fishing at night down on horse bend was the same deal her sting on the rsil but this time the darn rail was the on condo balcony 3 stories up.

Then there is this darn plane and helicopter they allow to fly riders out of Co Co's bar. I will almost bet if they keep doing this they will bust one are the other up killing some people are worse. The plane flys down my cove about 50 ft sometimes then make a dramatic turn rolling over to climb the hill across the lake. I have seen him land in boat traffic. Here there and everywhere. He is going to misjudge or something is going to malfunction. We also get our share of low flying Wart Hogs. I love those things though had one come upthe lakre in back of me i think using the pontoon as a target. He was down so close i could smell his exhaust.

Not long after we got out place on the Meramec, my son and I waded across the river right in front of our property to a gravel beach. Once there a walked through a weed patch to get to a small back up eddy. Once i looked it over, I walked back through the weed patch, and as I did I spotted some bones. When I looked closer I could see it was a snake skeleton but not just any snake skeleton. It was the biggest one I had ever seen. The skeleton of the head was about 4” across and the bones to the body were probably over 4’-5' all curled up. No telling how long it would have been straightened out.

I called my son over and said look at this thing. I took a stick and was poking it and I said if this thing was alive it would probably be the biggest wild snake I have ever seen. He said what kind do you think it was. So with my stick I got the head exposed where I could see his jaw and inside I could see large fangs about 2.5” long and I could also see little bumps like eyebrows which I am guessing is where the pits would be like a pit viper

So we knew it was a poisonous one and my guess was a rattler. But I didn’t see any rattle on the tail.

The sad thing was I didn’t think to pick it up and left it there. Looking back I wish I would of went and got a plastic bag and some gloves and picked it up. Be cool to have it now.

I don't know if this will be the neatest or the scariest thing that happen to me, Two years ago I was deer hunting and climbing up this hill I spotted a huge bush pile about 20 or 30 feet round and about 6 to 7 feet high, on the side facing me was this big oak tree and about two feet from the bush pile. There was another log laying in front of this tree a prefect place to sit on with my back against the tree.I decided to sit a spell and sat down with my back up against this tree putting me looking down the hill I just came up. There was more hill going up behind me and behind this brush pile to get to the top. As i sat there I thought if any deer came down the hill behind me it would either have to go right or left to get around this brush pile. Being a left handed shooter I was hoping if one came it would be on my right. After sitting there for about 15 minutes I heard a crunch, crunch, crunch and I turn real slow to my left while still sitting down and look threw this brush pile to see what was making the noise. I made out a buck. My heart started doing the deer beating mode and I knew this buck was mine. I sat like a statute and let this buck take his time walking down, now remember it had to go right or left to get around this brush pile but the buck had a different route plan straight threw the pile and up to the tree where I was sitting. Sitting on the log in front of this tree I was about two to three feet off the ground being a left handed shooter my 300 salvage was facing right across my lap, the buck came on my left side and stop beside me I FROZE. I had a small camo bag hanging off my pack which was on my back up against this tree. It hung down to my waist with doe scent in it. The buck came threw the pile with it's head down and stop about 10" from my left side with its head still down, I was looking at the top of his head and had no problem on counting the points on his rack a nice 8 point. My rifle was facing the opposite way putting the butt of the gun at front shoulder level to the buck no more then 10" from it. My heart ran out of my body but I didn't move. Slowly this buck raised its head and smell the camo bag on my left side hanging down and nudge it with his nose, then slowing brought his head up level with my face and I counted every eye lash on both eyes still being FROZE. What seem like a long time staring at each other no more then 12" from his nose to my face I blinked and off he went like a bullet back up where he came from but stopped on the back side of the brush pile and turn around to see what I was at least that what I thought. My rifle facing the opposite way then the buck I took a chance and swung right to get a shot but miss and off he went with a white flag laughing at me when I saw its rear. I finally caught my heart from running and sat there a good spell before moving. Now that I think of it I could of been horned and it would of been directly to the face. I was thrill of the experience but scare and not to be forgotten what had happen.
